This is the kind of church located inside a small you'd drive past if you didn't know better. Luckily we were with Angelica Valdez de Zaleski who must know this region like the back of her hand. We stopped by the village about half an hour before the church was due to close to visitors at noon. The main attraction of this quiet village is the church. The caretaker is one in a long line of caretakers from the same family. The church does not allow photos inside, so be sure to check out some of the postcards he has on sale if you want to take a piece of it with you. (Unfortunately the quality of the photos is not great but it's adequate.) Inside the church is a tall handsome back wall piece painted with gold paint (unfortunately I've forgotten most of the details told to be by our guide) created by Native Americans. The highlight are 9 paintings of arch angels imagined by their painters as Spaniards of the time with flamingo wings.

We were lucky that our guide took us to see this church on the way to Humahuaca. We never would have found it without knowing about it in advance. It is in a very small town off the highway. It has the most beautiful gold altars and an oustanding collection of colonial paintings.

This beautiful church in Uquia is one of the many colonial churches in Jujuy. It has a fine collection of paintings from the Cusco School of Art . (the Incas were taught to paint for the Spanish and put their own symbols in the paintings)There are nine angel paintings. When the Indians were told to paint angels, they did not know what they looked like. The Spanish told them that they look like us, but with wings. They painted soldiers with swords, spears and wings. The most beautiful wings that the Indians knew were the ones from the flamingos of the highland lakes and so the wings in the paintings on the soldiers are pink. The angels have very red cheeks from the wind in the northern Andes against the Spanish fair skin. You must plan a visit to this unique church and see the development and transformation of cristian religeous paintings when it moves from Europe to SA. A must see place.

This church is lovely and the paintings are amazing; 9 angeles arcabuceros. It is a bit of an effort to get there from Salta - by bus - but well worth the effort.

Una iglesia antiquísima en Uquía, imposible dejar de visitarla.El atrio revestido en oro demuestra la devoción crisitiana en esa epoca y los cuadros de los ángeles arcabuceros se destacan en ella, nunca vistos en otro lado.

Esta iglesia es digna de visitar, sobre todo para aquellos a los que no gusta el arte y la cultura, aquí se pueden apreciar los hermosos cuadros de los ángeles Arcabuceros.

Es una capilla que se destaca por su sencillez y posee una hermosas pinturas unicas de angeles arcabuceros que por suerte fueros restauradas

Visitar esta iglesia para descubrir las pinturas del arte cusqueño es una experiencia interesante. Los cuadros de los ángeles Arcabuceros son joyas que encontramos en esta iglesia. Asimismo es interesante observar la forma de esta iglesia, con su campañario en un costado separado del edificio principal. Para llegar a Uquía se toma un colectivo/bus en Humahuaca, es un viaje que toma no muchos minutos y los deja en esta interesante atracción,

Un destino al que no hay que dejar pasar sin bajarse de la combi o el auto y caminar recorriendo su zona para poder deleitarse con sus colores y la simpleza de su gente. Una hermosa Iglesia (no se puede sacar fotos en su interior lamentablemente) con una imagen para deleitar los ojos en su interior.

Lo que hace más conocida a esta iglesia son las pinturas de los ángeles arcabuceros (ángeles guerreros munidos de armas) que son un tesoro del arte cusqueño.Para los amantes y entedidos del arte, es una visita imperdible. Si lo hacen de día podrán visitar íntimamente el lugar.Pero también es una linda experiencia hacerlo durante una misa cuando los lugareños participan de la celebración con vestimentas, procesiones e instrumentos musicales típicos.

Es una atracción imperdible del pequeño pueblito de Uquia, en la Quebrada de Humahuaca, construida en 1691 se conserva en pie con sus anchas paredes blanquecinas originales de adobe de un metro de espesor, la torre está separada de la fachada principal y fue declarada Monumento Histórico Nacional. Pero lo mas valioso esta en su interior, el altar mayor del siglo XII esta tallado a mano y dorado a la hoja y lo mas llamativo son las pinturas realizadas por indígenas de los Arcángeles Arcabuzeros, traídos desde Cuzco en la época colonial, peculiar porque los nueve ángeles están vestidos como militares españoles de la época y portan arcabuces.

Cálida, acogedora , con historia en cada una de sus paredes . Un paisaje autóctono y humilde rodea a esta Iglesia que tiene brillo propio .

Fui a Uquía sólo para contemplar las pinturas de los ángeles arcabuceros y no me arrepentí. El retablo y el exterior de la iglesia también son hermosos.Desde la iglesia pueden visitar el cementerio (muy colorido) y hacer un trekking a la Quebrada de las Señoritas, unas impactantes montañas rojas.
