jesuit missions

I love its landscapes, nature, architecture, its history, its climate, its peace and tranquility. It is a place you must visit at least once in life. It makes you feel refreshed, without stress, and you can send back 300 years into the past.

There are six Jesuit missions that are UNESCO World Heritage sites (San Javier (San Xavier), Concepcion, San Miguel, San Rafael, Santa Ana, and San Jose). San Javier (about 225 km from Santa Cruz) is a village with few tourist facilities, while Conception (about 60 km further away) is a rather larger town with more facilities.The mission church has been heavily restored, and the bell tower (closed to visitors) is a completely new construction. To visit the mission, you have to obtain a ticket from an office on the plaza, and visit a small museum (mostly photographs) first. There is another museum with original carvings (entry via the same ticket). The mission church is still completely active, and is a wonderful sight at night with its lights lit and the main doors wide open onto the plaza.

I did a day trip here from Santa Cruz and the Jesuit Mission church is amazing !! , the history of the church is interesting and the town itself also holds a lot of attractions. It's a place that shouldn't be missed while in Bolivia

Odlingar av olika sorters grödor startade efter att Jesuiterna utbildade de olika stammarna i området ! I dag kan man skåda resultatet - med stora Haziendor -maskinhallar - boskap i stora hjordar och människor har ett arbete som försörjer dem ! Känns som att Jesuiterna har fått igång en lönande produktion !

Fui con mi familia a San Xavier, hermosa zona serrana, con el objeto de visitar una de las iglesias de las Misiones. Construida toda en madera, su altar y figuras increíbles. Una gran experiencia.

superbe endroit, proche du film "Mission" ( sauf qu'il ne se passe pas en Bolivie) endroit encore très vivant, nous avons par hasard assisté partiellement à une messe le dimanche matin, cela vaut le coup même pour les athées car la ferveur et la joie sont toujours très présentes.

Estuvimos en las misiones de Concepción y San Javier y quedamos maravilladas. Ambas, como algunas otras en toda la provincia de Chiquitania, pero sobre todo Concepción, han sido maravillosamente restauradas, siguiendo los cánones de las misiones originales de hace 3 siglos. Son lugares que inspiran espiritualidad y bien merece a pena dedicar algunos días a recorrerlas. Las malas comunicaciones entre las más alejadas dificultan la visita pero es posible hacerlo en 3 ó 4 días (de forma organizada a través de numerosas agencias en Santa Cruz) o con algún días más con transporte público.

bueno me gusta mucho su comida típica y muy famosa que es el Locro Carretero, el Majadito, Keperi y la Patasca. para lamerse los dedos que RIKO, la verdad me gusta todo de concepcion.

Llegué a Concepción en la Chiquitania Boliviana para ver el XII Festival de la Orquidea, sin embargo quede maravillado de ver lo imponente y hermoso de su templo misional jesuita construido hace casi 3 siglos!!! Es impresionante ser testigo de lo que pudieron construir con las limitaciones técnicas y tecnologicas de su tiempo.
