We especially enjoyed the roof! Beautiful views of the city. Our grandson especially enjoyed climbing about.
We came here and really enjoyed, particularly the roof top views which were breathtaking. The church is a vast complex and it takes some 1-2 hours to explore.
Figure out how to enter this site (it's through the school on the side) and prepare to for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Three levels to the courtyard can all be explored, and then you're on the roof, which offers great views of the city below. Also be sure to climb up one of the bell towers for an even higher view. One of the best things we saw in Sucre.
I just walked in randomly and was given a great individual tour of the monstery and church, including the rooftop which has absolutely amazing views on the city. They spent a lot of time with me, showing me special places such as the crypt, a few chapels, small hidden staircases, and didn't ask for a penny!
An amazing place which gives you the oportunity to see Colonial Sucre from a high roof. The place is very nicely maintained and the walk on the roof on a sunny day is breathtaking. The negative note is that the visting hours are limited and that it is kind of hard to find, since you have to enter through the school next door: Maria Auxiliadora.
This was an incredible tour. For 15 bs you can climb to the top of the church and get a full panorama of the city, not to mention an impressive self-guided tour of the full 4-story church.
I particularly didn't find it so nice. There is nothing really special but the view from the top. The church is just fine (there are other more interesting).
Visited it with a few local friends. Entrance fee was 15Bs, and it is self-guided. Luckily my friends knew about the history of the school and some of the interesting spots within. We went to the top floor where there is a surprisingly good view of the city for a place that is in the center! You can even climb to the top of the towers for a bird's eye view. Note that the floors were wooden in the towers and I felt safer when there was only a maximum of about 3 people in the tower. Overall nice view, good experience and not scary at all even for someone who is afraid of heights. Probably wouldn't return unless I didn't go during sunset.
I was really looking forward to going to this church and it probably would have been great if we could have got in but it was never open and we searched all round the block for an entrance but everything was closed...despite going during the purported opening hours!!
We spent a happy hour or so gazing over the rooftops from every angle of this viewpoint. The church wasn't that amazing, although worth a peek, but the sun over Sucre was a winner. It now costs 15Bs, not 10.
Now a girls school, we were fortunate enough to visit during the school holidays so we had the entire place to ourselves. The building looks immaculate but probably the best aspect was the option to climb up on to the top terrace and view this incredible city. You can also go up the bell tower where the views improve.
Ask a Sucreño where to go to and they will point you to the SAS, the largest supermarket in town, and to the San Felipe de Neri. Forget about the superrmarket, go to the Neri. An all girls school hides splendid white walls combined with contrasting orange roof tiles. Go to the top and inhale lost glory.
I was really looking forward to this place, but unlike what Lonely Planet said (newest edition), the church is closed on monday mornings. I had to rate to get this published, so I'll be good. Seen from the pictures it worth the stars!!Maybe next time I can really visit? :)
We had no idea we could visit the roof of this place, but glad we did. The views are amazing and we had the roof to ourselves!
I think you really need a guide if you are not Spanish speaking. It's not a church now but a school. Wish I had been to such a beautiful school! The building itself is very interesting. You also benefit from a great view of the city from the roof terrace. I don't know how much it costs as our guide bought the tickets. Recommended
