very nice area with lots of artists and lots of views. Quaint and colorful painted houses, boutiques and restaurants. We took Ascensor Conception up to area and walked around with guide who pointed out historic sights and told us the background of the area. Found a great restaurant that we walked back to from hotel for dinner. As another reviewer said, it does feel safe to walk around and none of the vendors bother you; people were sitting on benches reading and enjoying the day.

We decided we would walk up & it was steep in places: A number of very nicely painted houses, boutique hotels, restaurants, art shops and B&Bs plus of course street art. Though not as impressive as the street art in the Barrio Bellavista in Santiago.Unfortunately the day was cloudy & we missed the blue skies you see on most photos -but as Pablo Neruda called his chair in his sitting room " the cloud " may be it is not always blue skies in Valparaiso. Worth a two or three hour meander through the various streets - then come back down on the Ascensor Conception built in 1883.

We walked around here for a couple of hours and really loved it. So many cool little places to explore and I can imagine there are a number of little nooks and crannies that would be really awesome to explore as a local.It clearly caters to a tourist vibe, but it still has a feel of looking like it would have done years ago.We only spent a few hours in Valpo, but were really glad we spent them here - highly recommended as a place to wander and get a feel for the famous old town.

This is my favourite part of Valparaiso. The views are lovely, there are historic sights to see, and it feels safer than many other parts of town. We took the funicular up the hill and then wandered the streets enjoying the street art and stopping at the little shops. It was easy to find a good lunch spot with a view and a Pisco Sour. We stayed elsewhere in the city but next time I'd stay in Concepcion for sure.

We walked around Concepcion Hills for hours. The street art and murals are beautiful and varied. The many colors of imagination greet you wherever you look. We took an Ascensor to the top and when we arrived, we walked into a street fair. There are many shops and restaurants throughout Cerro Concepcion. However, the real attractions are the streets and the murals.

We loved this beautifully restored Art Deco house, filled with a wide variety of art from 18th century to contemporary work. This house, built for a mineral magnate, was stunning and well worth the visit just to see the quality of the workmanship, it also happened to be in a great setting with views of the bay. Loved seeing how Valpo had changed over the years through the paintings. Strangely we almost had he place to ourselves as most people visited the Naruda house.

With my 5-day experience: no difference. Both are basically the same area with dozens of guesthouses, boutique hotels, hostels, souvenir and handicraft stores, and of course restaurants. Walls are literally covered with murals and graffiti, but unfortunately you can't see much street life at the cerros. Most of the action (especially nightlife) is near Plaza Anibal Pinto in downtown. The good news is that you can stay at a nice guesthouse at the cerise and walk down in 5 minutes (and take a colectivo shared taxi back up for less than 1 usd).Cerros are very pretty and a good location for holiday headquarters, but don't get stuck up in the hills!

What a fun little neighborhood. The place is filled with hostels, restaurants and great graffiti! Great place to stay!

This gives you access to lots of lovely restaurants and bars. Great views of the town too. One of the more expensive ascensors, about 30p!

We took the ascensor at the conception hill and paid 300 pesos (each) one way up hill (they charge the same on coming down at this station). The views of the colourful hills around the harbour are intermittent, but the street art and interesting architecture in the surrounding streets is worth seeing. Roaming around the narrow, winding streets is also fun. However, the cafes are highly overpriced and unobstructive views are hard to find. Just by chance we wandered over to ascensor El Pearl. This area had a large terrace near a large white building (Palacio Baurizza?) that had much better views. Also the ride down (and up) at this funicular was only 100 pessos. If you are watching your budget, you'd be better off using this one and walking to cerra concepcion. It is not far. Also, note, that the signage for the funiculars is not obvious. You need to look for white signs about 3-4 meters off the ground. The ascensor concepicon is inside a narrow hallway, while the ascensor el peal is around the corner off the Main Street , near the big blue grey building of the Armada de Chile (a very impressive and imposing building). Lastly, watch your step as dog faeces is everywhere ... Very disappointing for all the hype that this city commands.

Colourful, busy (with tourists) streets with sme interesting shops, galleries and restaurants. The ascensor's are a useful bonus in making your way around the area.

The murals in houses and buildings are interesting, some very good and others displaying a strange psychology. Its lovely to walk around, get a view from the terraces and a short trip up or down the 'ascensores'

Colourful houses with traditional design and picturesque streets with arty shops. Wonderful views from the top. Get the fernicular to the top ($100CLP=£0.1) and walk down.

Cerro Concepcion was listed as one of the top activities for Valparaiso Chile, but I was kind of disappointed. The restaurants there targeted tourists, and the prices reflected it. I prefer a local experience, but Cerro Concepcion is the opposite of that. A lot of strays roam the streets, so watch your step! Maybe I picked a bad day to visit, but the energy and scene was not exciting or particularly charming. The murals and graffiti art are quite beautiful, esp. In the areas with older/abandoned buildings. You get the sense that this place was a bustling, prosperous city once upon a time. But now tourist traps have taken up residence in the hollow shells of buildings. Besides a few great photo ops, I wasn't impressed with my visit.

Highly recommend staying in this area while in Valparaiso. Central & easy to walk to many places & restaurants.
