One of the best displays of Pre-Colombo anywhere. Free and just off the square so do yourself a favor
The exhibit has lots of interesting artifacts, well displayed by period and region i.e. civilization. Explanations in English are clear while not easily readable in the basement (the black ink does not help!). It covers not only Chile but the whole of Latin America. Lovely coutyards
This is a great museum! Really well illustrated maps of tribes and timelines, and an incredible collection of figures, pots, textiles, and jewelry from throughout central and south america. well lit, lots of space, and places to sit. There is signage in english, although there are more extensive explanations in spanish. There is a cute cafe in the central court. FYI, it can be a bit warm, and there is no water easily available, so bring a bottle with you if you're going to spend a few hours here.
An extremely well presented and clear exhibition of South and Central American culture over the past 3000 years. It gives a lot of detail on each section and it was a surprise to see that the ancient precolombians were ahead of the Egyptians in several respects . However the museum gift shop was disappointing as they could have sold pictures or replicas of some of the fascinating and stunning items. Of note was the Inca knotted strings which were an ancient form of data storage!
Maybe the best presented museum I've seen about this subject. Includes every part of the continent and many time periods. The textile part is jaw-dropping. A very pleasant History lesson.
What I liked is the fact that this museum does not try to feed you too much information. The accent is more on the aesthetics of the artefacts and they really succeed in carrying that through. The lighting of the statues is superb and it is truely a peasure to go through the various exhibits. Still, you can get quite a bit of information on the origins and history of the people that are represented by reading the panels, but that is not absolutely necessary to enjoy the beauty of this museum.
Wonderful museum , well worth a visit. The artefacts are impressive : from tools, to utensils and even clothes. Very nicely tied to the various indigenous tribes' history.
Great selection of pottery and textiles from all over Chile and other parts of South America before the Spanish came,
Considering it contains articles we don't see everywhere in the world, it was really worth the visit. The ambience is organizedand its not an overwhelming place.
amazing renovation, beautiful and great place to get to know about Chile. It is located downtown right by plaza de armas and the old congress house, skip the cafe
lovely lunch menu, though not many choices on it. But it was served well, was very well cooked and designed, fast and ina coutyrad that was nice too.
