For the entry price of 25 reales, we were each given a souvenir glass with the name and establishment year (1875) of the winery etched onto the surface. The glass was used for the tastings that occurred along the way. First there was a movie glorifying the family and explaining the carryover from a region in Italy, where the Valduga wines were first produced. The tour is given only in Portuguese, so have a translator handy or just enjoy the tasting. The tour is mostly given through the cellar that holds 600,000 bottles of the wine, but none of the production process is shown, leading us to speculate that perhaps the production itself is not done on the site. Most of the other wineries we have visited in other countries take you through the actual production process. The wines were good, but best of all were the sparkling wines for which this region is so well known; we had to buy a couple of bottles that compared favorably with fine French champagne. The vineyards are beautiful and this is a magnificent setting, in the low mountains of southern Brazil. With a great exchange rate for dollars, we felt we bought a nice glass for around $10.00 U.S. and then received several free tastings and a free tour of at least part of the winery. There is a very good restaurant which is a part of the complex, as well. There seems to be plenty of parking for the traffic, and we sampled some of the grapes on the vine; kids loved that part.
Impressive site with very nice enoteca where wines can both be tasted and purchased. Restaurant Maria Valduga is just around the corner. I recommend the Maria Valduga Sparkling wine as well as the Identidade series of wines.
My husband and I were in Porto Alegre for the week and took a tour of wineries - Casa Valduga was amazing! They do a tasting prior to the tour, and will pour your favorite whites, reds or sparkling wines. The tour takes you to see not only bottles and barrels, but the processing for their Brut and the tour ends with a walk through the vines. We were there off season, so that may be a different case if you are there Jan-March when they harvest. Try the port and the lunch at the winery. Will write up the meal in the restaurant category! It was some of the best food we ate in Porto Alegre, so fresh, and $31 for all you could eat.Use a tour company if you can, the final roads to the winery are steep and winding.
We had a great time visiting Casa Valduga. The tour and the wine tasting were very pleasant! The tour guide was really nice and helpful. We got to know all the process of wine and champagne making. In the end, we had the opportunity to collect grapes ourselves. The only downside of the visit are the prices, especially for a family of four..
Knowledgeable, friendly staff made our visit a joy. Lovely old buildings, great wine and generous samples. I was very impressed with the engagement and depth of knowledge about the winery, the family and the wines. Really outstanding
We had the opportunity to take an evening tour of the Casa Valduga and dinner afterwards. The location and property are beautiful and the guide was knowledgeable and engaging. This tour absolutely made my visit to Bento Goncalves. The wine-tastings were wonderful and informative and the dinner was delicious. Don't miss this!
We visited this winery which is one of the top in Brazil. The lunch in their restaurant is very good and I recomend it. Regarding the visit itself is very good, but the caves are not that fancy like those in Napa or in France. Anyway is worth the time and money. The wines they give you during the tasting experience are far from the best they have, but the price is also low. If you wish something better you have to ask for it.
My husband and I went on a tour of the Vale dos Vinhedos during our trip to the south of Brazil for our honeymoon. We decided to visit some small wineries and a big one. The larger one we chose was Valduga based on the suggestion of the owner of a wine shop in Canela. We arrived in the late afternoon and so had the option of eating lunch at the restaurant or going on the tour. Well, since we had been out all morning tasting wine, we opted for the lunch since the person who recommended Valduga to us specifically mentioned the lunch. Well, we were not disappointed. The lunch is very reasonably priced and delicious: an all-you-can eat rodizio from soup, salad, meat, several different kinds of pastas all the way to dessert. We enjoyed a bottle of 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (which we tried to buy after at the store and they were out of!). The service was friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, we stayed long enough at lunch that we missed the last winery tour of the day. So, I cannot speak to that. But, if the service and quality at the restaurant were any indication of the rest of the place then I would suggest it. And, we liked it enough that we would definitely return.
This is a fantastic place to visit and to learn! You visit and taste and smell and buy good products. Staff is good, but two of the girls were really in a bad mood, something that can not be good once they work with tourists. But, anyhow, you must go!
We went to a tasting tour at Valduga that took one hour and a half. The guide is a enologist and gave us lots of interesting information on wine production as well as local culture. We tasted several kinds of wines (reds, whites and sparklings). The facilites are amazing and, at the end, we went to the winery shop which is very nice. The whole staff is very kind and helpful.
The first time we attended this winery we stayed at the B&B offered onsite. The price was reasonable back in 2005 but is very expensive, at least for us, now in 2012. The prices of their wines have increased a lot since then also. They have a nice assortment of wines. We like their espumante brut which we had with our picnic lunch. The facilities at the winery are very beautiful and they have obviously had a lot of success over the last few years. The people working the store are very nice and helpful.
Best champagne of the vale and unique grounds! Great price for all wines!
Great winery, great shop and great wine tasting! Casa Valduga it's one of the best winery in Bento Gonçalves. I would say it's smaller than Miolo, but this is his charm. It's like the owner will talk to you and teach how to do a wine, eg. The restaurant it's very good too. Don't forget to buy a wine to bring it home!
We went there for the tour and tasting a couple of times because whenever some family members came to visit we would take them there, but all I can say is that it was never dull, it was actually quite interesting and the tasting was really great. You could try everything, from sparkling wine to brandy.
