Everything at the theater is nice, is a really modern complex, with wonderful infrastructure. Also the administration is always looking for the best shows around the world to have them at it.All year around is programmed in advance!!!
The Teatro Santodomingo is a wonderful place to go see any of the great attractions they frequently have in place. However, he location is not the best and you have to leave well 0 two hours at least - in advance in order to arrive on time¡
We've seen a few different performances here and have loved them all. Beautiful setting and architecture as well as a strong lineup of cultural activities.
The Teatro Mayor offers wonderful presentations of artists from all over the world. In July we went to several concerts. Two of them featured Gustavo Dudamel conducting the Simon Bolivar Symphonic orchestra from Venezuela and Michael Barenboim playing the violin. Besides classical music, there was a puppet theatre performance and Antonio Gades' flamenco dance company. The seats aren't expensive and seniors get a 30% discount. The theatre has great acoustics and comfortable seats with a lot of leg room. There is also a smaller theatre for more intimate performances. One doesn't need to dress up here to attend a performance. That is expected if one goes to the Colon, the beautifully restored theatre downtown, which just reopened.
I saw a play in spanish in that theater and I really appreciated, They all had microphones so the sound was very clear and I could pick up almost every word they sad.
It is a very New Theater. The best acustic one in Town! They invite very good Artists allthrough the year. If you want to go, enter the page tuboleta.com to see the concerts´ programs. It´s important to buy tickets before getting there in order not to lose the visit. Early you can go there and visit the library. Then you can visit Santa Fé´s Mall, which is quite near, to have lunch or, to buy Colombian Shoes at Vélez or Bon bonite.
Very good design and architecture, good acoustics, very nice staff, easy parking and great cultural program all over the year!!!
The place is beatiful, Is not easy to get there, go by taxi and enjoy a cultural place in bogota. Check out on interenet to see whats going on there, but almost every function is great
at this concert hall. We attended a jazz performance in the small theater so did not experience the main concert hall, but it was good acoustically and we enjoyed listening to Colombian musicians' version of jazz.
The Teatro Mayor and Biblioteca Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogota are truly amazing examples of what the wealth of a generous family can do for the public when put to use properly and imaginatively.Located in the northern part of Bogota, funded by the second richest family in Colombia, the largest library in the country along with a spectacular cutting edge theater utilizing the very latest technologies in lighting and acoustics are very interesting places to visit if you appreciate the arts and architecture. The theater was closed when I was there, however through the very kind attention of the Jefe de Salas, Sra. Gonzalez, I got to see the majestic 1332 seat theater, with it's infinitely adjustable acoustic panels, naturally lit ceiling ocular and tremendous stage, and the Estudio Theater used for smaller performances with it's custom adjustable floor which allows for a completely flat surface or varied levels for seating/performances. I wish I could have been there for a concert to personally sample what are considered some of the best acoustics achievable in a concert hall. The public library contains a huge reading room, classrooms where people can come for instruction in multiple interests, a children's library where themes ranging from astronomy to pirates are highlighted over the year. The clever architectural design takes full advantage of natural light wherever possible and all the interiors are bathed in the diffused sun's rays. Even transition areas that normally would not be windowed interestingly use very small clear glass tiles set into the thick concrete walls to provide illumination. With ample automobile parking under the building and with the entire facility being fully handicap accessible, the short trip out from the center of Bogota to visit this attraction is definitely worth it. If you are lucky enough to be able to time it so as to attend a concert or stage production, it is a must.
If you are in BOG check them out and see if they have anything going on. To tell you the truth, I've even traveled to spend weekends there and see the concerts or overall events they usually have. The concert halls themselves are modern and well designed. the acoustics... just wonderful too.Try it out!
