El acuario is a stunning place. There are lockers were you can leave your stuff for some pesos. In the place they sell snorkels, some shoes for the water and waterproof cases for mobilephones(anyway, i wouldnt try those)
Little treasure on the island. we hired a golf cart and drove around. you pay $4.000 entry to West View and there are some cool wooden shacks selling all sorted of coconut-based cocktails and renting snorkeling gear. You climb down some cliffs to the water to snorkel and the fish are really pretty. Definitely recommend.
Do not go. The "island" is so crowded you will feel more comfortable in a busy nightclub. There are people and trash everywhere. Boat engines smoking. Loud music. Terrible snorkeling. This is how marine life is destroyed when not managed properly. Avoid it!
First act: confusion and lack of information on the shipment. Second act: short and very beautiful boat trip, you can capture the beauty of the Caribbean seas. Third act: yes, El Acuario is beautiful, but it is not easy to realize that, with the crowd of people in the place! My tip: go quickly to Haynes Cay, the brother island, walking by the water. Much less crowded, you will find a nice place to sit on the grass and enjoy the wonderful sights there! And it is a nice place for snorkeling as well. I recommend!
It was exciting to see the fish through the water, it is so clear, and just swim among them. It was very good because they are all natural places, the animals (mainly fish) are not kept in pools.
This is a tourist trapt. You'll be 200 persons in a island not big as your living room. You'll have to pay somebody to check your personnal stuff because it's too crowdy. Not even worth a single minute to spend there.
We took a VIP tour to go to the El Acuario and the mangrove area. The boat ride was 20.000 Col$ per person. Unfortunately they squezeed people on the boat. The mangrove area not worthy, nothing to see. The acuario experience was fun and beautiful. We walked from one island to another one. . Then we did some snorkling. The children loved it because they see fcolourful fish everywhere. We also saw stingrays but we didn't like that the tout operators catch them so people can have pictures taken with them. At some point the place was crowded. Although stunning place, the transparent water, the colours of the see, the fine sand, at this pace, These tours are going to kill everything around because I do not consider this tour an enviromentally friendly tour.
el acuario !dont bother unless you rent a boat and go at odd times. crazy crowded. it is not fun and way too many people. go to provencia much better
This review is for la piscinita. It was 4000 cop per person to enter, 15000 cop to rent goggle & snorkel (+50000 cop refundable security deposit), and 1000 to use the toilet. No outside drinks or food is allowed. Icecreams, drinks, and snacks were available on site. You can't stand in the water and it goes to 5m depth quickly, so most people cling to the ladder or swim a few meters out to a rope to hang on to. Visibility is excellent and there are lots of beautiful fish that come right up to you and bump into your legs waiting to be fed (with the bread that you are given on entry). It's easily accessible by bus to and from El centro, which costs 1700cop, and takes ~40 minutes. Buses seemed pretty regular - at the intersection outside la piscinita it was about 20 minutes between buses. A couple of hundred meters up the road is west view which we didn't have time to visit, but which we were told has more fish, more people, and a slide.
Worth it only if you want to swim there and spend at least a couple of hours. If not better go other places.
We visited la Piscinita and it was soo beautiful, they charge you $2000 pesos to go "in" ($1 US), That includes 2 pieces of bread to feed the fishes, if you throw the bread the fishes come to you. It's a great feeling, the water is beautiful!! Make sure you have swimming shoes, the "stair" to come out of la piscinita is slippery.
