We came a while ago during a weekend intended to have lunch but they were full. This time we are the second table throughout our lunch in Saturday of the Australia Day long weekend. Overall the food is OK despite the staff took a wrong food order. And the main confusion was the wine by the glass. We just ordered by glass without referring to the menu. Then afterwards we found they specify small & large (not indicated the volume) which is not common. When the waiter serves the wine, it's a very low level in the glass, then I thought it's small glass (even it is smaller than small as I expected). At the end, the bill was charged with the large glass. Please just make sure you are ordering correctly and happy with the wine volume by the glass where you are here.
Good wine, friendly people & tasty produce. An ideal place to visit when visiting the Porongurups Ranges.
I went to Gilberts winery yesterday with 6 family members(,and a baby),the food and drink was really great, and the very friendly staff made our visit enjoyable,I would certainly tell family and friends to go there.
Although the area and views are nice enough, the general thoughts of the meals were, average.Nothing special. Service was good as was the wine. With an area filled with pub style meals (steak sandwich, soup, and steak) something a bit different would be nice.
Loved the fresh local produce. Excellent presentation and lovely surroundings. Helpful, knowledgable and courteous staff and owners.
I didn't think I liked Riesling till I tried theirs! Great service, food and wine in a lovely location. I have returned often and particularly enjoyed their "burning of the vines" night.
Very friendly staff and great lunch-time food. Our party of 5 tried several dishes which all went down well. Lots of local produce for sale as well as Gilberts wines
Wonderful lunch with live music. Did wine tasting first so we would know what to order with our meal. Love the reserve Shiraz. Food was delightful and great ambiance in the place. Right on Albany Hwy at the Kendenup turnoff - so easy access.
We had lunch and a wine taste. The flies at this time of the year required that we sat inside - the ambiance was a bit 'cafe' style but the folk were friendly.
This is just out of Mount Barker on Albany Highway and is a great place to stop for a taste of their local wine. Or for a teetotaller, they have great cakes and good filtered coffee.
Excellent friendly staff with a great selection of wine! Riesling was really great. Usually a sav blanc drinker however may be converted! Also served a lovely lunch which appeared to be a rarity for wineries in this region. Highly recommended.
This is a fabulous family run business that sells very good wine and reasonable prices. It is also open for meals and serves great food.If you are travelling in this region, put this on your must do.
Bought a tray of peaches picked fresh off the tree that morning. Tasted fabulous wines, purchased the award winning Riesling, the yummy Chardonay and The Lads Cabernet Savignon. Will be back for lunch next time.
Dropped in on the way back from Albany to Perth and, in truth, sampled the wine only as an excuse to use the toilet. Wheee! It was a light bulb moment -- this Gilberts riesling is truly awesome, crisp and dry, and we headed on up the highway with a six-pack in the boot. Best on ground in the Great Southern, is my opinion. Spilled some down our friends' throats at weekend barbie and they loved it, too. Gotta stop in for some more next month. By the way, toilet was clean, too.
Gilberts built their reputation on the back of their truly outstanding Riesling. Wine Guru James Halliday has constantly top rated the wine. It does not stop there. The Chardonnay and Shiraz are also earning Gilberts an enviable reputation. The rustic setting of the cafe and tasting area is very appropriate for the setting and the staff are invariably friendly. You will almost certainly be served my either Bev or Jim Gilbert at some point. It’s not all about the wine at Gilberts. The quality of the food in the cafe is superb. Bev manages to source the best of local Great Southern produce and selects veg and herbs from their own garden. My first experience here was with Asparagus Fettuccini, which was truly inspiring. A fantastic dish We were so impressed with what Bev and Jim had to offer that Amanda and myself arranged to stage our wedding at the winery. The whole event was superb. Bev and Jim were so helpful throughout the whole process of organising and staffing the event, we had the best day of our lives. I’ve visited Gilberts many times over the last 16 years and have never failed to enjoy every minute I’ve spent there
