The lady behind the counter, the owner, gave us a very expert talk on the district the grapes and the problems they have.Tasted a number of wines and they were very enjoyable. We left with a couple of bottle wines. The REDS are fantastic, go try them.Stop buy a bottle of wine, chees platter and sit on the verandah and enjoy life.
we visited Dalwhinnie after it being recommended by a local. Stunning views, the owner explained the vineyard to us and we enjoyed a lovely tasting. The views were stunning so we relaxed on the deck with a glass of Pinot Noir. Highly recommend a visit.
Beautifully crafted and presented wine. Amazing feeling driving into the vineyard amphitheater - gorgeous. Three price ranges, but all quality and comparable to the best of other regions. Long may it prosper.
If I was a major red wine drinker I would have given this excellent even I could appreciate how good the red wines are. We did purchase some wines from here. They do charge a tasting fee which is waived if you purchase from the selection. There is a $10 charge per person for the premium wines and a $5 per person for all other wines. It was informative and a beautiful vista from the cellar door. They have accommodation which I'm sure would also have fantastic views.
The most outstanding winery in the Pyrenees region. Wines are expensive but worth it. David Brown a most outstanding host.
What a beautiful vineyard and cellar door experience. Gabrielle who was our cellar door host and was extremely knowledgeable and so friendly that it made for a perfect visit. Of course the high quality wine was pretty amazing as well as was the whole complex. There is a house on site you can rent overnight that seemed great value so we will probably be back to try that too. While no meals are served you can buy a cheese tasting plate to go with your wine. The tasting cost $5 per person redeemable on wine purchase. My partner fell in love with their flagship Shiraz and squirrelled a couple of bottles into the boot too.
Try the Pinnacle, you won't be disappointed. The Eagle is out of our price point and not on tasting. The Hut range is entry level, and the Moonambel range is the one we bought. Great views from the deck. Platters available.
Dalwhinnie is a stunning boutique winery. The lady who arranges the tasting is very pleasant. The wine has 3 pricing ranges. The wines are between $25 - $180. You do need to pay $5 or $10 for tasting but is returned if you buy the wine. ( not uncommon for some wineries)
Thanks Dalwhinnie - your tastings albeit that you charge for them are well worth the price - and the explanation given of the local growing conditions was very informative.
Beautiful location, magnificent views.Staff member very pleasant. Only winery that charged for tastings- lovely wines but with matching price points.
Liked the wines, loved the food, loved the conviviality of the whole day and the best thing is that you can purchase and bring wines back home with you.
$5 tasting fee, redeemable upon purchase of wine. Small tasting room with amazing views (which also meant extremely windy). Lovely wine but had price tag to match.
Stayed 2 nights in January 2014. Something of gem in the Moonabel area. It's a pity more Victorian vineyards don't follow their lead in relation to this standard of accomodation.
Dalwhinnie wines are among our favourites so we were disappointed with this experience! We were the only people in the tasting room when we arrived and I felt that we were an inconvenience for the gentleman (apparently the actual wine maker) who seemed obliged to be serving us that day. They charge a $5/person tasting fee ($10 for the premium wines). We were ok with this fee until we bought over $150 in wine only to find that they didn't take the fee off. I understand that they are running a business and that asking for a tasting fee is acceptable, considering how many people try but don't buy, but I would assume that this fee would be deducted from any purchases that are made. I feel that this is poor and very disappointing! Maybe they should revisit this practice.otherwise gorgeous wines and a spectacular view.
Thank you for your comments. We have nine wines on for tasting at our cellar door. Our bistro range 'The Hut' is priced from $20 to $28. Our Dalwhinnie Moonambel range is priced from $42 to $58 while our single vineyard range is priced from $85 to $150.
