It's a lovely scenic drive and has an old historical link with Brisbane. Worth a the trip away from the highway and grab a Sunday lunch at one of the hotels.
This small town has quite a variety of eating places and I would recommend the Eagle Rock Cafe. There are street markets of a Friday morning in the main street and it is a nice little place to have a wander. Worth a little detour off the highway.
The drive from Samford over Mount Glorious, through to Lowood and across the highway to Laidley is just an amazing day out. We discovered a quaint post office/cafe in Forest Hill, a wonderful wedding/accomodation site called Branell Homestead and to top it off a little lake called Lake Dyer where families were enjoying a glorious day skiing. It left us wanting for more of the countryside than one day could offer so we are off for a leisurely trip around the region, perhaps following the old Cobb and Co route.
Das Neumann Haus is a café and museum in the style of an old country Queensland house in a country town just an hours drive from Brisbane. If you are out for a drive in the area then you would be doing yourself a disfavour by not calling in for a great display of period furniture and utensils together with a great light lunch or just tea/coffee and cake. They do smoothies as well. The delightful staff are volunteers and are refreshingly friendly and helpful. Entry is free but you can give a donation if you wish. It's a great visit and a good stop for lunch.
Visit the Laidley Saturday Markets held on the 4th Saturday of each month. If you like freshly dug onions and potatoes and the broccoli is straight from the farm, super fresh and the beans have that one day freshness snap to them, the taste is the best. Only 1 hours drive from Brisbane drive through the early morning mist the back way past Amberley and through the lovely town of Rosewood. On the way home head to the Warrego Hwy., but detour to Lowood and Fernvale great typical Queensland country towns. Buy fresh baked bread and the best T bone steaks from Lowood butcher with fresh country killed beef. All in all it is a lovely day trip and plenty of things to see and do , like travelling back in time when visiting the shops and getting real friendly service and ask any local what to see and they are only too happy to advise.Take the trip , I did and loved the beautiful outdoors and came home with enough veges to share with my neighbours and cheap too.
