We enjoyed a few hours here feeding the animals and interacting with them. The staff were most helpful with information onthe animals and their habits. although a bit bumpy in a wheelchair, it was stil possible to get around and see all the exhibits

This is a fantastic zoo for families. You can cook a bbq, speak to the staff and zoo keepers easily and get to see all of the animals close up. I love coming here

Visited here the other week. Excelent place to visit. Animals were well looked after, plenty of picnic area. Check with them for times of activities, the day we went they had the Koala petting at 11.30 with some reptiles to hold whilst waiting to see the koalas. Staff are happy to take photos for you on your camera if your there alone.Great place to visit. I was told that in the past they lost alot of the zoo due to bush fire which was a shame but good to see that they have built it back up.Well worth a visit.

What a wonderful zoo. I have nothing but great words to write about this attraction. My two year old loved it and the staff were amazing. It probably helped that we visited on a quiet day (Monday), but having said that I would go any day of the week. We can't wait to return. I have spread the good words via my social media and hope that many more people come and see what wonderful work is being done to educate and entertain our children. Thank Hunter Valley Zoo. We appreciate all your hard work. :-)

My partner and I did the Meerkat experience, best experience we've ever had together! I was surprised at how much interaction we got to have and how interested they were in seeing us.

Had a great day here with 2 toddlers we went outside school holidays and there were no crowds and the staff were so accommodating!

I read the review on TripAdvisor before going and was not disappointed. The zoo looks small but opens out. Lots of animals and more interactive then main zoos I have visited. We managed pat a wombat, pat a camel, get your photos taken with koala's for free and you can even bring in your own food and use one of the bbqs they have to cook with. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. It is also cheaper than any other zoo I have visited. They even had wolves which I have never seen as well as deer. It's very clear the team at the zoo take pride in providing and protecting there animals but ensure visitors have a great experience too. Recommended for any family.

My husband and i have just spent a wonderful day at Hunter Valley Zoo. We were amazed by the fantastic variety of animals as well as the standard of the enclosures. There are plenty of hands on attractions for young and old. We have visited many zoos but this is the first with a maned wolf, very impressed. Good amount of space for the littlies to run around as well as bbq facilities and plenty of tables. Very friendly staff who are more than happy to share their knowledge. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to spend a day you need look no further.

We visited on a rainy day and it was perfect! We had special tours, a whole lot of company with the animals and other like minded people desperate to find something for under 10s to do in the Hunter on a rainy day. We even had a special visit from a 5 week old marmoset, plus got to see the teenage alligators - definitely, definitely recommended stop.

This zoo is very small, but the best for a close-up experience with Aussie animals! There are lots of birds, monkeys and reptiles, but most importantly wallabies you can feed and pet and koalas you get to pet and take photos with for no additional cost! Everyone gets their turn and they are kept out until everyone is satisfied - keepers are friendly, helpful and approachable. Loving this zoo!

We took the kids here and they all got to feed the animals and spend time with them without the crowd. Get place to get close to kangaroos and other animals. Kids of all ages will have fun here

Our visit to this zoo was one of the highlights of our holiday. I don't think I will ever forget the experience of the soft, velvety kangaroo mouths eating food out of my hands - or stroking the strangely woolly koala. We got up close with the blue tongue lizard and see the echidna (spelling?) at first hand. The animal enclosures are spacious but you can see into them - and many you can lean over and look at the animals. Many of the animals have been rescued (such as the albino kangaroos and wallabies) as they could not survive in the wild. The dingoes and other wild dogs are also really fascinating. I avoided the goats myself but it was possible to go in and feed them. Periodically certain animals are fed and the zoo-keepers give a short presentation about the particular animal generally and the characters of the ones that are in the relevant cages. It is both interesting and entertaining. This is a good place to go if your group has a wide range of ages as there is something for everyone. We spent about three hours here even though the zoo is not big as there is a chance to watch the animals at very close quarters.

I RECENTLY visited the HUnter Valley Zoo at Cessnock and was very impressed. IT is smaller than expected but, all animals are easily seen and many of the enclosures have glass panels which allowed me to take photos of my daughter vertually standing next to the animals. There are a number of new enclosures under construction so it will only get better! Mostly Australian native animals on display with a number of different species of monkeys , birds, reptiles from other intecountrys. Not much in the way of catering other than drinks but all in all worth a visit !We will go back at a later date.

Took our 7 year old Grandson to the zoo yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Being able to get so close to the animals is special. The set up is really good. Thanks for a fun time.

My 2yo daughter enjoyed the close encounter with the animals. Its a small zoo with limited animals but she had fun feeding the kangaroos and touching them.
