A must do place when staying in Penrose or Kangaroo Valley Region. One of the finest Buddhist temple in Sydney, built as per Thai Monestry....
What a wonderful place ,peace, beauty and a feeling of having left the world outside the gates.we enjoyed just sitting in the peaceful garden. To see such beauty and the monks are so lovely. This temple is rich in feelings of the worth of the soul. One sees how important every living creature is to these quiet souls. One should not wear sleevless tops out of respect to the monks.Gifts are welcome but please do not touch the monks. They do not shake hands. Most of all enjoy and respect another culture.
After doing the bushwalks, Glow worm cave and walk around town, finding Sunnataram Forest Monastery was a lovely surprise. So peaceful and educational too seeing all the various forms of Buddhism from India, Indonesia, Thailand. The main temple made me feel like I was in Thailand.
I have visited this monastery a few times.Nice quiet foresty place. The monks and inmates are very friendly and eager to share their spiritual knowledge. You can stay and do a retreat but it is early am rises and no eating after 12 noon which is a bit of a bummer. So I prefer to stay at Bundanoon YHA where I sleep in till 9am and then visit on my bike from Bundanoon and have some lively discussions with the acolytes there.
Very well maintained grounds and very helpful staff. You can get a free lunch there and a nice coffee or tea. Temple is awesome ! Don't forget your camera !
We came across this temple completely by accident. It is only open for parts of the day and not every dayI've never been near a Buddist temple and this whole area was fascinating to explore. We saw some monks and had some free tea. There is a tame peacock wandering the gardens and the whole area is very tranquil(and big). You can enter most buildings as long as your shoes are off and your shoulders and knees are covered
I had heard about this place over the radio. It was so lovely to find it. The Pagoda is amazing and atmosphere is peaceful. A few too many displays, making place look messy. Has so much more potential
Visited the Sunnataram Forest Monastery and was amazed. You drive down a country lane and suddenly come upon a huge handmade temple replete with tiny bells on each spire. A great free lunch was on offer and the smell was enough to get "yes" from all. Very interesting place different representations of Buddhas from all the different South East Asian countries. You can see all the way to Sussex Inlet. Highly recommended. Beautiful place
