gloucester tops trail

It was 22 degrees in Gloucester when we set off - and 11 degree when we reached the top, in the midst of the clouds. The drive to the top was an adventure in its own right - through 6 fords and up a steep gravel and winding road. It's passable in a 2WD but in the wet you must have 4WD. At the top there are some lovely views - the water fall and the look out, and a lovely walk in the arctic beech forest. On the day we went there was no one else at the top - very other worldy and just the sound of birds. A lyre bird jogged across the road in the front of our car.Just before the final steep drive to the top there is a lovely picnic area with toilets, billy can fire stands and tables. Also a great river walk - we were told there were platypus in the river but we weren't lucky enough to see any.
