A gorgeous little winery! We sat in the garden and the staff ran us through the wine list. The staff were so attentive and we received wonderful service. The wine list was very impressive. We were also served sourdough bread and olive oil - a lovely touch. This winery also has a lovely gallery, it is worth a look!
A colleague of my wife introduced us months ago to one of the Dog Ridge wines so we were keen to visit this winery while we were travelling through the region. We had a wonderful tasting experience with Don who gave us a really warm welcome, tasted many of their lovely wines and had a great chat about the characteristics of each. It was a fantastic learning experience for us both in addition to the tasting. Returned back home with 2 cases of wonderful wines and special memories (we visited on our Anniversary) - another great experience in the McLaren Vale wine region.
It must have been a popular day for group wine tours on the day we visited McLaren Vale. Fortunately we had made a booking! The lady serving us was very friendly and helpful though run off her feet because of the amount of booked and ad hoc visitors. As a result we didn't make it through all of the tastings because we had another place to visit. Still, it was a nice atmosphere and the plate of fresh bread and olive oil was lovely.
Visited here with friends last year, so it was a must when we returned to the region yesterday. We had a group of 10 from SA, NT, Vic and Qld and not one of us could fault the brilliant time we spent at the Cellar Door; Jo was fantastic and made us all feel so very welcome! Wine was so very tasty and the tasting was relaxed and supportive - a definite must do!!
Just realized we failed to rate this wonderful tasting spot that we visited last year. Definitely one of our faves. We enjoyed -- and purchased -- a number of the reds. And were greeted by some quite large, friendly pooches who were out and about for stroll.
It's not the flashiest of cellar doors but I preferred it this way . It felt homely and the female owner doing the tastings was friendly , down to earth and eager to help you . Delicious wines and definitely a hidden gem in amongst the bigger wineries
We were taken here by Adelaide friends, and what a delightful experience. Not a "stand and spit" tasting, working through a line of bottles, but a welcome to a long table (where we were later joined by others) where the knowledgeable staff allowed us to take our time to enjoy fine sourdough and excellent olive oil with the wines. And the wines were marvellous. We had very good experiences at two other wineries in McLaren Vale too - Leconfield and Pirramimma - but this was a standout because of the feeling of genuine hospitality that comes from sitting around a table. And wine with food is very effective too....we bought lots. Thoroughly recommended.
Dog Ridge was the last of our stops in McLaren Vale however we should have been our first in retrospect. We sat on a large table, was served with local Damper from a 30 year culture for our Olive Oil tasting and drank wonderful wine sampling from a well educated, caring and wonderful person. The ultimate experience. We just wish our customs limit could accommodate more bottles. Ciao and Enjoy!
I am writing this review as I leave this cellar door, the car is packed with wines and my experience is unmatched for wineries in this area. After being friendly welcomed and entertained by our connoisseur we would highly recommend a visit to this vinyard. I have travelled to 32 countries and must say their variety and local knowledge is a must taste!
The cellar door at Dog Ridge Wines is a great experience and is a relaxed and friendly way to try their wines. The cellar door manager Jo is very friendly and welcoming and gets you to sit with other visitors and she will go through the wines and answer any question that you throw at her. It was a lovely setting down amongst the wines and the wines were excellent as well with a couple of great Shiraz worth trying.
When we arrived the person in charge was friendly and invited us to take a seat outside in the shade. She then proceeded to bring us our tastings. What a nice idea. As a result, much wine was purchased.
This is a lovely place to visit; the staff will sit you down and take you through their wines as you make new friends. The wines are good and they also have a particularly good idea. They sell a red and a white clean skin by the dozen which is very drinkable (not the leftovers). In the box, they provide a dozen blank labels so that you can get creative and design your own. What a great idea for a gift: a decent wine with a personalized label. The chooks? Jen Wright's paintings can be viewed here. There's some lovely works but her chooks are fantastic.
