iron knob mine tours

Totally enjoyed the tour of the Iron Knob Mines. The guide tells you how things were when the mine was opened & dur ng it's working life. You are taken around on a mini bus & see the shear size of the old mine. The people in Iron Knob are a mine of information There is a visitors centre where you can watch some videos & also purchase a few souveniors of your visit, a must see for anyone interested in the iron ore history of the area,

Tour wasn't operating but visitor centre was amazing! Knowledge of the locals was astounding! Watch the video they have and enjoy the locally made souvenirs and gemstone, explosives, mine equipment displays. Worth the look!

Volunteers from the Iron Knob Progress Assoc man the Tourist Centre/museum in the old mines administration building. The museum contains photographs and items from the mine, plus a large display of minerals, many of which were located in the original Iron Knob open-cut. There is also a DVD on Iron Knob and mining. The volunteers also conduct tours encompassing the township and the open cut mine. The volunteers have a lot of experience and are very knowledgeable of the areas history. Cost of the tour was a donation. The visited to the museum and town/mine tour takes about 2 hours.
