cullymurra waterhole

A pity the area is becoming so dusty and that the indigenous rock art area has been fenced off. Great place to visit though and would be great to camp there

We were advised by a traveller to try the camp at Cullymurra Waterhole. We sre so happy that we did.Camping 4wd permits for $10 can be bought at Innamincka Heneral Store.The location was clearly signed and we were surprised to see pit toilets located in various positions near the campsites along Cooprr Creek itself.Some camp sites are better located for access to the water, so it's best to drive in and check each location / camp site. There is no power, bbq area, bin or water, just a pit toilet. Come prepared & self reliant.Wildlife is plentiful along the Creek banks. We saw no snakes or snake skins during our visit. Rowing down the creek was an absolute pleasure. So much birdlife to wstch, photograph and enjoy.We shared our campsite with a family of 5 Galahs and their babies hidden deep inside a tree trunk.Fishing with lures was a waste of time for us, but our yabby trap with raw lamb meat successfully caught Yellow belly. While all but one were released, the sole big one was tasty wrapped in foil and baked over hot coals.....Yummy!This location is ideal if you are self sufficent and enjoy isolation.
