Don't miss a visit to this beautiful library and especially the Mortlock wing. The free tour starts at 11h00 and is very informative with a surprise or two included. Remember your camera. Also a very pleasant place to study. Toilets well looked after. Also worth a visit is the South Australian Museum, right next door!

The State Library of South Australia is a wonderful research area. It has copies of the ships registers that brought the free settlers to Adelaide in 1836. There are family histories, old business directories and it is amazing what can be found out. The Bradman area is also in this library and there are many computers and all that is expected in a State Library

A free library tour might not sound exciting but, for anyone visiting Adelaide and interested in the city's history, this is well worth the hour spent.

I called into the State Library to get some family history information for a friend in the UK. It was very well signposted and everyone we spoke to was very helpful. One gentleman also pointed out a place of interest we may like to visit connected to my friends family history,The place is light and airy and has a modern feel, not your usual stuffy library. The exhibitions looked interesting and well put together. We didn't know about the coffee shop at the entrance, but would call next time we are in town it looked very inviting.

the tour at 11am was interesting we had, french, Canadian, Austrian, Nepalese on the tour, it took one hour and showed the beautiful Mortlock library off, a good hour spent

Just came back from a great guided tour of the Mortlock Wing, so much to see and discover about the state's early history. The volunteer guides were very friendly and knowledgable. Well worth a visit. What a hidden treasure!

I love the Glenelg and Brighton Libraries mainly for their service and gorgeous staff. You dont find that at Adelaide Library, in fact to spot a staff member is extremely difficult. I understand its all about self service but I dont enjoy that aspect.

we were down in SA for the fashion icons exhibit but noticed The State Library had an exhibit called Yesterdays Heros on rock icons from SA and how the music scene was exploded by their contribution!! Wow the memories, with music piped through we walked around fascinated while humming and toe tapping!! Thanks for the memories SA

I joined a free tour of the Library for both the old and new sections.In the Mortlock Wing, one can see the history of Adelaide through the various displays on the sides of the old library. No wonder with its French Renaissance architecture, it was featured in a list of the top 20 most beautiful libraries of the world in 2014. I was told that the archives beneath it hold valuable rare books of Australian and international value. The new wing has reference materials has a wide range of formats from microfilms to digital. It's indeed a public library for everyone.

I booked a Free Tour of the Mortlock and Symons Library. My interest is historical. Outstanding, exceeded my expectations. Also, a bonus was that the Royal Geographical Society of SA were kind to unlocked their doors, they're in the top floor of the Mortlock Library, for us to have a look. We consider ourselves very fortunate as the Geographical Society part of the Library is usually prearranged and not usually opened impromptu. Our Guides for the Mortlock, Symons and the Royal Geographical Society were warm, friendly, welcoming and very informative. This is a hidden gem in Adelaide, didn't realise the SA Library have books dating back to 14th Century-incredible! The ambience-you feel that you are in the set of Harry Potter. Looking at the Flora and Fauna exhibition (The Treasures Wall) someone playing the Piano-very relaxing. Whole heartedly recommend this Tour for local and visitors of Adelaide South Australia and the added bonus it's Free!

We went for the 2pm free tour and learned a little bit of South Australia history in the Mortlock Chamber as well as another exhibition and services in the library itself. It was good and enriching and would be better if it didn't felt as rushed.

The library is a fantastic resource for research and a place to relax with a book if you need "time out". Check out the changing displays on the Treasures Wall near the top of the stairs. The main library area is state of the art and the librarians are incredibly helpful if you need to locate something. The older ares of the library - The Mortlock and Institute buildings are very interesting and the new glass entrance preserves the view of both buildings. The only downside - the dreadful coffee in the shop down below. Get a cup before you arrive!

Although I have been to the State Library of South Australia before, I'm ashamed to say that I had never been into the breathtaking Mortlock Wing until I took part in a Crime In The Colony tour. I had contacted the SLSA to enquire about booking for the tour and was told that they weren't currently running this particular tour. A few days later I was delighted to learn that a couple of the volunteer tour guides had offered to run this tour just for me. How good is that?! My tour guides Janzy and Lorraine were absolutely wonderful and the tour was fascinating. I had no idea that Adelaide's history was so dodgy! The magnificent State Library offers so many wonderful services, most of them free of charge. How lucky we are to live in a city where such wonderful resources are freely accessible.

The revamped design, variety of spaces and free wifi make this a top notch facility. Appreciate the great staff assistance.
