Well worth spending $10 to see the film. Interesting and entertaining - a must if visiting Stewart Island. Very quirky.
Not exactly Academy award material here, but amusing enough way to learn a little of island history and ( strange) customs. Ps Lola the star appeared quite unimpressed about being made to behave for visitors and would have been better off outside chasing something
'A locals tail' is a 40 minute film illustrating the history of Stewart Island in quite a quirky way. A fun way to fill part of an afternoon and a really positive illustration of the strong community spirit that exists on the island. It is shown in a local independent cinema and is a great way to contribute towards keeping the cinema facility alive. An added bonus is the 'star' of the film Lola, a really cute dog is there to 'shake paws' cinema goers on leaving at the end of the film.
Very sweet and informative, I just loved this funky and funny local film so much I clapped at the end. I am glad to have seen it early on in my 5 day stay so I knew more about the history of the island as I visited the sites. Also, I was expecting a folding chair type place, but no, this place has cushy chairs, nice screen and popcorn too.
We saw the movie and were disappointed. The theatre is cute and quirky, but some of the video quality was poor, would only recommend if you are bored and its raining.
This is a great movie giving a wonderful local interpretation of Stewart Island, it goes through all the history if the Island and gives fantastic advice on local attractions. This is an ideal first place to visit for advice on trips and activities. This cannot be missed!!
A fun little film about the history of Stewart Island. Oscar worthy it isn't but I wouldn't miss it if visiting the island. Lovely little friendly theater.
A little gem of a theatre showing a short 30 min film about Stewart Island and its history. First class seats, as good as any in a capital city; good quality sound and video. A must-do if you're here for a few days. Also something I haven't seen before: a popcorn machine where you make your own popcorn. We didn't try it but it looked like a unique experience.
I watched the movie made about Bluff............and a dog, very cool make your own popcorn and cheap.
We really enjoyed our visit to this comfortable theatre. We learned a lot in a veryhumorous way and in comfort. Well worth the 10.00 entrance fee and lovely staff.
What a great way to fill in a rainy afternoon with a 6 yr old. Very quirky look at life on the Island and most informative. The seats are very comfortable - more so than many city cinemas. Of course the antique popcorn machine kept the 6 yr old amused while waiting for the start and meeting the star. Lulu is a lovely dog. Let me know when she needs to be rehomed.
Was $10 each and worth visiting the movie theatre that shows at 2pm and 4pm ...good humourous story of the histor of the island
I really enjoyed a local tale and it set the tone for me with the rest of my time on Stewart island. The dog is much smaller and cuter in real life, I enjoyed being able to learn the history and be entertained at the same time and the theatre itself is very nice and comfortable. Worth checking out.
You too can meet the star and she's really sweet. A history of Stewart Island by Lulu the dog. She does a pretty good job of presenting the history of the "drynoses" on the island. The best part is getting to meet Lulu and have a photo taken. It's $10nz and we thought it a very pleasant diversion for the afternoon.
We very much enjoyed seeing the production "A Local's Tale" at the Bunkhouse Theatre and meeting the star. She is gorgeous. The movie gives you a very interesting feel for the island's history and community and we enjoyed the ending.
