My partner and I stumbled upon Fromagerie La Station while we were driving around the area, and overall, it's a good quick place for some cheese and a bite to eat. This creamery is apparently on a kind of heritage trail of farm goods throughout Quebec. We tried a good number of cheese here, and they were quite delicious. We bought some to take home with us, which is the best compliment I could give. The service was very friendly, and they make do with a very small service and display area. They also had an open air creamery in-house where you could watch the 'action.'Unfortunately, they didn't have cream(!), so we didn't order coffee. That's kind of ironic that the creamery did not have any cream. Other people there were eating grilled cheeses, which looked delicious, though we did not have one.Fromagerie La Station is a good place to stop in during a long drive, I will say that.
We were in the Coaticook region and wanted one more side trip. These cheese makers were listed in the local tourist guide. Our 3 children had no interest in going but we went anyway. The very helpful young lady at the store gave us samples of their four cheeses and we settled on the two most robust: Alfred Le Fermier and Raclette de Compton au Poivre, the latter having red peppers within so slightly. Now the kids want to go back! As these are fine cheeses, expect to pay a premium for them. Savor them.
Well worth a visit! Meet the family. Sample the cheeses- especially the 'aged Alfred'. Take a look around at the farms and mountains.
Small variety..but very good..people working there were very friendly...family owned.. some days tours are available
This fromagerie has a nice little cheese boutique that sells their cheese products in addition to an excellent selection of other locally-produced products that go well with cheese, such as chutneys and other creative preserves. Their cheeses are delicious and made right on the premises using cow milk from their dairy farm next door. I believe that a couple of their cheeses won awards at national competitions in the last couple of years. If you want, you can ask to taste their different cheeses to help you decide which kinds you want to buy. A great place to drop by if you're in the Hatley area!!!!
We stopped on the way back from our weekend at the Hovey Manor and had a taste of their cheeses as well as feasting on their great grilled cheese sandwich which was by far the best we ever had. We bought one of their cheeses along with a Porto jelly and feasted more when wr got back home.
Wonderful cheeses. The 24-month aged and their fabrication special cheeses are their best - and note that unlike their regular La Station products, these particular cheeses are generally not available in stores. You can take a tour or just have a look at all the cheese wheels in the storage vault. While we were there someone was busy washing, brushing and turning the cheeses. They are not far from Magog, Sherbrooke or North Hatley - worth a detour.
We were there during a festival so there was a big crowd. We did manage to see some of the grounds and buy some cheese. I would certainly recommend a stop at La Station if you are in the area.
Great cheeses, the Alfred the Fermier (24 months, delicious) They don't take credit cards and only Canadian debit cards. Make sure to have cash!
