I really enjoyed the wide range of well put together displays and artifacts from this area. This museum is one of the best of its kind that I have ever visited. I would highly recommend it to any one who is interested in the local history.
When first walking into the museum, you think that there is just a gift store, meeting areas and a fabulous view of the water. Continuing on through to the exhibits was great (which are hidden in the back). The native display of ornamental items and masks was one of the best that I have ever seen along with the theatre in which is was located. Continuing through - it showed the diversity of the area, logging, fishing, mining. A mini theatre and the old Willows Hotel lobby was great Exhibits were so well done!! I am looking forward to a return visit!
This is a beautiful little community museum. We always take visitors here and also visit it for our own enjoyment. It is well laid out, unbiased and really informative. Well worth a visit.
Just driving into the parking lot of the CR Museum is fun and the collection of this area's art and history lives up to expectations.
This museum displays Campbell River's history very well. It is interactive and tells a lot about Campbell River native culture, traditional fishing, logging. There are three historic films. It is a wonderful place to visit. I take my friends there when they come to visit and enjoy it every time.
A great surprise for sure, one of those must do things when out of town company arrives and your looking to show off Campbell River
We have been in the Campbell River Museum a number of times. There are wonderful cultural displays and videos of Ripple Rock blast, and First Nations cultural stories. The art is wonderful and exhibits are definately worth going in to see. The museum also hosts boat wildlife tours, bear and whale watching tours through out the summer months, we have gone on two of these trips and were totally delighted.
A wonderful museum. Extremely high quality artifacts, especially the First Nations materials. Gives excellent insight into the origins of Campbell River as a logging and fishing town. Good movies in the film room.
Though the displays in the Museum are mostly static, there are some with sound & video interactivity. If you want a broad overview of Campbell River history, with a significant emphasis on First Nations contributions then this is the place to go for an introduction. Good gift shop for Native design items. Friendly staff. Set aside at least an hour to fully appreciate all it has to offer. There is an outdoor environment walk that links to a park with swimming pool open in summer so the kids can have a little more fun after their "cultural" vacation component of a trip.
An excellent museum with lovingly installed themed displays, showing everything from First Nations culture and narratives to fish fabrication. Also includes a historic cinema showing a film on the engineering feat of removal of the Seymore narrows.Definately go there!
Native exhibit well done. Not one for museums but found this to be very interesting. Well done Campbell River.
The history was very well presented and the film of Ripple Rock was fascinating. The day we visited there was the family from hell which prevented us from seeing some of the better parts and the lady on the front desk kindly let us come back again the next day. We did wander around the outside garden afterwards and I simply can't believe that people allow their dogs to foul the verges. I trod in it and it wasn't very pleasant. Nothing to do with the museum just a thoughtless dog owner
A very good museum which lets you experience the past from all perspectives in a way that makes you feel part of history.
I have been visiting Campbell River for at least 12 years but never been to the museum as I don't normally like museums. A friend persuaded us to go and I was extremely impressed. Lots to look at. Everything laid out so well. Different rooms to show different periods in Campbell River's history. Films, slide shows, reading material, photos, 1st hand accounts etc . I would definitely recommend it.
Wow - a must see!!!Great to see the different rooms. First Nations, Fishing, Logging and the Tourist Trade.Gift shop was 1000% - really appreciated the effort to produce a hard copy description/history of each piece we bought
