A beautiful and easy 14km return hike amidst forest, river, and - of course - a waterfall at the end of the trail. In the summer the waterfall is just a trickle, but in the rainy season it is a gushing torrent. A beautiful way to explore the forest with a reward at the end.

Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver is beautiful … but often overrun with tourists and locals alike. On weekends, visitors line up for a chance to cross the suspension bridge and the trails can feel a little crowded.A few kilometres north at the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park there is an completely different experience. Fewer people, more trails and jaw-dropping scenery that rivals it’s more famous neighbour.Norvan Falls is an easy 14 kilometre round trip (16 KM from the furthest parking lot) with easy grades. It’s about a four hour round trip through lush forests along the river that pays off with a pristine waterfall at the end. Pack a picnic, you'll want to spend a while taking this in.The trail immediately takes you into thick cedar forest. The first part is a wide gravel road that is stroller / wheelchair friendly. Further ahead it becomes a wilderness trail. Along the way to the falls you’ll see relics from the old Cedar Mill as the forest here was logged in the early 1900s. Old metal tools, and rusting carts and railway parts are scattered along the route.Getting to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is easy. Following Lynn Valley Road (past Lynn Canyon Park) to the end of the line, where it turns into Rice Lake Road. There are three parking lots and the trail-head is just across the wooden bridge going over Lynn Creek. You’ll find a sign / map of this and other trails in Lynn Headwaters park, including one that loops down through Lynn Canyon. If hiking isn't your thing, there are picnic tables by the bridge overlooking the river. Between May and September you can learn about mining and logging history at historic B.C. Mills House. If you have a dog, this is a “leash optional” trail. Bring runners or walking shoes – not flip-flop friendly.
