Reasonable fare to get back and forth from Halifax to Dartmouth. Part of the transit system. Will be busy during regular commute times.

We stayed in Dartmouth where the hotels are less expensive than Halifax. the ferry is inexpesive and an easy way to get to Halifax. Saves on the toll to cross the bridges and the expensive parking in Halifax.

What an inexpensive way to soak in some views of the Halifax harbour and Dartmouth. Round trip is less than 30 mins or take some time to do the walk around the seawalk on the Dartmouth side. A must do!

The ferry can take you from Dartmouth to Halifax and back again. It gives you an excellent view of the harbour and entrance to the Bedford Basin. It costs very little to take the ferry. It does not take you to MacNab's island or into the northwest arm.

You go to the other side an visit Dartmouth. And it is very nice ride in the summer. An it runs all day so you can go walking Dartmouth. The fare is cheap an quick. Lots of seats.

The Halifax Ferry is part of Halifax's transit system so tickets are only the cost of a bus ride. The return journey is covered by asking for a slip of paper called a transfer. For older kids, a windy ride on the top deck is exhilarating, with great views of both bridges and McNab's Island. For families with strollers, the bottom deck is a safe place to look out the window. On both sides of the harbour, there are coffee shops, pubs and playgrounds. Our favourite is the Submarine Playground on the Halifax side, right next to the tourist office. If you are visiting Halifax, makes sure that the Ferry is part of your day. For more information about enjoying Halifax with kids, check out the website Family Fun Halifax.com.

I always encourage visitors to Halifax to take a ride across and back on the Ferry. The only glitch is not obvious to new people where to get a token and the fact that you'll probably need change to make it happen. When the weather is nice, ride up top. If on a weekend, park your car on the Dartmouth side and take the Ferry over to Halifax for the day.

This is one of the best secrets in Halifax and great way to get around esp. for Cruise Travellers. 15 minutes each way across the Harbour and great views both way.

Took this on Canad day and there they had long lines that went pretty fast. the ride was fast and the view was great, and lots of wind that was enjoyable on the hot day.

The ferry was fun and easy to use. My wife and I got a great view of the city and a chance to mix it up with the local folks. It was a real travel deal.

If you want to avoid the parking issues in Halifax itself, park across the water and catch a ferry over.. a fast regular service that only takes a matter of minutes to cross the water to Halifax. Also used as a popular route by commuters, you might want to avoid the main 'rush hour' periods as it gets pretty busy .. though still more fun that being stuck in traffic crossing over bridges!

This is a wonderful way to see Halifax Harbour for a few bucks. It's not a long trip across the harbour, but you will have a unique view. The ferry runs frequently, I think every half hour, in each direction and trust me - THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT. So some on, ride the ferry and have a little relaxed fun.

4 ferries cross the harbour all day and for the cost of a bus ticket this is the cheapest harbour cruise you are likely to find. On a nice day sit up top and enjoy the view.

Ferries leave at regular intervals to the other side of the harbour. A short trip of 15 minutes and a chance to have a look around before heading back. A low cost tour.

Tuesdays are free for seniors. Fifteen minute ferry ride from Halifax to Dartmouth. Ferries depart from both sides every thirty minutes. Trip was very smooth. Got to see the coastline from both sides of the harbour.
