Hurricanes off the coast create some exciting waves for those brave enough to surf the cold North Atlantic. Really entertaining for those that like to watch. Not great access for the wheelchair, hard to get over the large dunes, but there are a number of access points, along this expansive beach.

I visited Lawrencetown Beach on New Years Day on a little solo adventure as it is located close to my in-laws home at Martinique Beach. I was surprised to see so many people bundled up and out for a walk on the beach! It was beautiful. The location is wonderful as it is close to Halifax, and close to other must-visit sites such as Kannon Beach, Grand Desert, the Atlantic View Trail... it is necessary to say that it is not the best beach for swimming, but excellent for surfing.

Just a half hour from Halifax you will find this gem. Spectacular beach, great for wind surfing, surfing, kite surfing or just sun bathing. Bring your lunch and spend the day.

I love Lawrencetown... however word of advice: it's a rocky beach with strong waves and undertow... you can swim (and there are lifeguards) however it's not a place where you can go and lay on the sand in the sun so much (plus it's often cold there, even if it's sunny elsewhere!)

Just outside dartmouth. White sandy beach great for surfing. Only issue would be the water currents.

Go for a stroll along there stoney beach or watch the surfers catch a wave. the choice is yours. Just a few miles out of town and worth the Trip.

Easy to get to, great signage a panorama over looking the Atlantic. There were a few courageous surfers paddling their way out to catch the big waves. We stood in the wind for twenty minutes watching the water. pebble beaches well washed with the tide changes. don't drop any coins they fall through the rocks and are lost forever.

It was my daughter's first experience surfing and it was amazing! Ok, the water temp. in mid August was about 18C, so it is cold for swimming in a swimsuit, but she was fine with her rented full body wetsuit and longboard. The waves were about 1metre, and in under an hour, she rode a couple of perfect breaking waves all the way in to the beach! It was a thrilling experience for her, and a must do!

Visited the beach after reading reviews hoping for a family swim, but its not that kind of beach. I thinks its worth pointing out:- the water was brutally cold when we visited mid/late July. My son went in the water and joked he was going to have a cardiac arrest, jumping right back out- Not a "sandy" beach by any stretch, mostly rocks and thickish sand, if there at low tide. If at high tide, its a thin ribbon, no room to toss a Frisbee or football- forget about swimming with the kids. We kept the younger child entertained looking for shells and jelly fish. Older kids enjoyed breaking the rules (current) and swimming across to the far beach at low tide, but you enter the water on a dare its so cold- there's one little shop near by but we couldn't find any real dining any where near it

Beach is beautiful and busy with surfers! My favorite part of the day however was going to the dutch store in lawrencetown beach. They have the best dutch cheeses, candies and other goods. Worth the trip 100%.

If you enjoy swimming, or catching the waves, this is a must to see. Lawrencetown beach is simply a great place for the adventure swimmer. On a warm day, the beach is filled with beach lovers, and on a cooler day, you can watch the surfers. I enjoyed my time on this beach and will return again

This beach is a wonderful place to do surfing and just watch the surfing. It is very easy to walk from the parking lot to the washrooms and the top of the bank to look at the beach .However the walkway ends and you then have to walk down a bank full of rocks to get down to the beach. This may be an issue for some people that are not steady on there feet.Very beautiful beach and landscape.

Beautiful sight seeing beach, always fun to swim, lay around or just watch the surfers. There is a surfboard rentals service there and is quickly become a vary favourite place for people near and far to try their hand at surfing. Lots of rocks, big waves to play in... all around nice place to visit for an hour or all day

I grew up going to L-town beach. It was always a little colder than Rainbow Haven, only because it's not as sheltered.

VernT304

Surf the cold north atlantic. Not far from Halifax. Bring your cold water surfing suits tho as the water is rather cold.
