Nice green space, full of dog walkers. Summer attraction of well kept grounds great for a stroll. While there do not miss the Botanical gardens across the street.
Peaceful, great place to walk, picnic, identify trees, tobogganing in winter. If you have a dog it is a lovely place to meet other dogs.
The farm is very interesting and there is an excellent display about bees with an actual hive behind Perspex.
It is so nice to have this in the city if it were not for this farm how would our local kids learn about farm life.
Experimental farm, especially the flower section quite impressive. In the summer they display floral arrangements that are unique and very beautiful. Parking is easy and you can stay as long as you want. Many people go there for picnic. A very good site for macrophotography.
As an Ottawa native I love coming here to just relax and explore and take about a million different pictures at all times of the year of all the different species of plants they have growing. You have to check out Bebb's Oak....it is one of the biggest oak trees I have seen and is absolutely amazing! The flower gardens near the Agriculture Museum (and where the animals are) are on the small side but really pretty. The only disappointment is the rose garden.....but with Ottawa winters and roses being so fussy they are a lot better than I can do! They have a sensations garden by the parking for the museum that is not to miss. You can interact with it by touch and smell which I think is great! They have a really nice selection of Lilacs, Peonies, and Iris...to name a few. The crabapples are just amazing in spring full of bloom. Very romantic ;)The walkways through the actual Arboretum are well maintained and there are multiple routes that take you through it from Prince of Wales to the Rideau Canal. Just be warned that the area around the 'pond' by all the willow trees is usually very very moist and you will get covered by mud even if it looks dry and grassy. Trust me! I would suggest bringing a picnic and staying a while or bringing your dog for a walk (just clean up after lol there are trash bins around for refuse). There are well kept bathrooms in the building by the National Capital Commission Driveway and Prince of Wales as well as parking.
Amazing area to walk, bike, run, jog and just enjoy nature. The property is located along the canal.
I love the variety of trees in the park and they are identified by species. Flower gardens near the farm are pretty and well appointed even if they are small. The site is near Dow's Lake Pavilion and what makes it even more attractive .
My favourite place for tobogganing, ever since I was a little child. Also a great place in the summer,, with lovely views of the Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake. Bring your dog, as this is an official dog park.
I've ran through the Arboretum several times and had a really nice picnic with the family in the shadow of a huge tree. It's peaceful and beautiful.
In the summer you can roll down the hill and bike/walk along the beautiful paths. In winter you can toboggan and use it as a launching pad to skate on down's lake. Just love this place.
I am a regular and live in the neighbourhood. The paths are well kept with a lovely design that lead you over bridges, ponds, apple orchards, gardens and along the beautiful canal. A real gem.
The Arboretum is maintained within the Central Experimental Farm by the Federal Department of Agriculture. It encompasses a wide variety of trees -- both hardwood and evergreen -- most of which are prize specimens and most of which are labeled with both their common names and their Latin titles. The Arboretum extends over several acres and includes a tributary creek running off the Rideau canal. There is also a bird sanctuary, bordering on its north-east corner where it encroaches on Dow's Lake, an artificial lake formed within the Rideau Canal system. It is a delightful spot to stroll , separated from the husle and bustle of the city.
This is a great cross section of gardens trees and pathways along with a far full of animals for the kids to see and enjoy and is in the middle of the city
Great place to go for a walk, especially with your dog (leashed) or if not busy which is common without a leash (just don't get caught! LOL). All the trees are labelled with their biological name and this place is a great place to capture your thoughts. You can even walk down towards the Rideau river. Another great park in the city of Ottawa.... 10 minute drive from downtown. There are also some buildings which I have yet to visit, but will have to at one point.
