The inside of this church is absolutely beautiful. The main minister is a woman who is very warm and caring. The organ is like no other in Kingston and the organist is amazing. The outside of the church is not that special. i love their special services when the symphony plays. the choir is excellent.
My husband and I were married there 23 years ago ,along with so many family members . This church has such character . Has tours often.
A traditional but not the least bit stuffy Anglican service with superb music. St. George's is a beautiful church, and the flowers that Sunday were especially lovely. We were greeted warmly by a number of parishioners. Very welcoming.
It was a great tour. The inside is quite beautiful. The tour guide was informative and very professional.
Historic small city/town feel for Canada Day Celebrations. Great pubs, restaurants and tons of early Canadian history.
This church which is in the heart of downtown Kingston is worth seeing. Its simple exterior and interior fits in well with this city, which has a quiet, if understated, beauty. Thus the church fits in well.
Friendly greeters and a guide in many languages to take with you as you wander along with very knowledgeable docents made our visit enjoyable and was a peaceful respite from the tour.
This Anglican Cathedral is great as a music venue for the symphony or any choral ensemble. Soloists can make the hair stand on the back of your neck with the great acoustics.
A historical and beautiful church steeped in the history of Kingston. home of the St. George's Choir. Services on Sunday and Thursdays, tours available and an easy walk from the downtown. Architecture is lovely. We get a feeling of warmth and comfort when we walk in, and the people there are very friendly and welcoming.
On a recent Sunday morning I attended the 8:00 a.m. service at St.George's. As a visitor I was made welcome by a congregant and the presiding priest. Unfortunately those in attendance were few and the space vast, the result being a lack of the spirit of community. They tried, but did not succeed. If the service were to have been held in the Lady Chapel we all would have felt together in worship. The space is vast, the ceiling high and there is no sense of warmth to the decor.
St. George's Cathedral is glorious. The light streaming down from the dome, the stained glass and the plaster work on the columns are all breathtaking. The organ is spectacular - a sound not to be missed if there is a service or a concert scheduled.
Beautiful place to pray. Parking can be scarse since you park on the street but all in all Beautiful. Pretty quiet considering the location right beside a firehall and a busy street on both side
if you are in town, take the free tour - this is a beautiful piece of architecture and one steeped in history. The windows, pews and other art work are breathtaking and the tour guides are wonderful and funny.Kingstonians are proud of their city and it shows in this tour.Steps from Market Square
St.George’s is a rectangular and stout building whose full extension is only visible from the two side streets along which it is built. The view from the east reveals the elaborate dome and the dynamic of the construction where a large pediment marks the transept area. The opposite side mirrors that pediment and tops the southwest side entrance. The entrance area features a porch enclosed by four massive Doric columns whose bases are sitting directly on low plinths. Their capitals are topped with a plain architrave and frieze, the cornice and pediment are decorated with large dentils. The shafts of the columns are plain and one can see the layers of stone cylinders piled up on one another. These features give the place a sense of entering a temple of God. St.George’s dome is decorated with sixteen Corinthian columns, each separated by an arch and it is topped with a lantern with eight small Corinthian columns, also separated by arches. It dominates the landscape by its imposing classical beauty. A walk to its north side reveals a well-demarked apse with eight stain glass windows. Inside, it's opulence! A visit is well worth your time!
