Don't even bother going to this DUMP!! If you happen to be unfortunate enough to talk to the head zoo keeper Bomba -BEWARE! He is so full of himself and just plain nasty!! Never been treated so poorly by a local ever. This "man" has absolutely no respect for tourists or human beings in general. Went there with a group of people and were totally mistreated by him. The night ended abruptly - will never bring anyone here again.
Went to Tortola for surf. Caught it big. Stayed down the street at Sebastian's. I had a blast at the full moon part. Caught a great meal from a vender on the road. Dead show atmosphere. Fun!
We stopped for a few glasses of mushroom tea!Great views and plenty of surfers to watch. The locals were very friendly, we enjoyed the stop!
This bar was truly a hole in the wall. All the writing on the walls and mismatched slabs of wood add to its charm! We had the special punch which was really yummy! It sits right next to the water and has a nice view! We weren't there for the full moon party, but everyone was really excited about the next one! Just go!!!
As casual and laid back as you can get. It is THE definition of hole in the wall (or beach). Two women felt safe and had a great time at this island institution. Have fun, good drinks, and decent music at this really fun place.
Get your taxi driver or whoever to drop you by this spot for a drink at a really cool "bar." It's basically a shack right on the water with a great view at a really "off the beaten path" feel. Not fancy, just cool. Do it.
On a recent Cruise to the Caribbean we visited the Island of Tortola in the BVI and took a pub crawl. The best part about this crawl was Bomba's Shack! Let me start with, this is not a place for children under say...21 years of age. Between the colorful bras and undies hanging from the ceiling and walls and the decorative posters in the men's and ladies rooms it's a crack up. If you're a bit of a prude this place is not for you!We visited in the daytime and stayed about 45 minutes or so. The most spectacular thing about the shack is the view of the surf and the surfers. The surfers have to paddle their surf boards out past the coral reefs before they can even surf. The waves are just magnificient...a surfer's paradise. I cold sit there all day and watch them!
Everyone must experience Bomba's during a full moon party at least once in their life. Great music, fun people and great drinks.
Take a trip here if it's a full moon as they have an amazing beach party. At midnight they will bring out the special tea for you to try, be careful as it's going to be very hot, I managed to burn my mouth but with the effects of the tea never even noticed.
Just a must see when you visit Tortola, lot's of fun for adults. Beautiful views of the water and strong drinks!!
I visited way before it became a 'list of to do' place, and have read several reviews that contradict my experience, however, the one thing that tourism cannot take from Bomba Shack is the natural experience. We sailed into Cane Garden Bay and took a taxi through the mountain to the shack. It was a Sunday night and the Super Bowl was on in the US, which is apparently not just a bug deal to Americans. On our ride up we had the windows down and passed a church hosting their Sunday night service and the gospel singing filled the air. The kids that live along the way would wave. We got to the shack, walked in, and there sat Bomba! We enjoyed the amazing island food and of course a couple of Bomba punches. Yes - the place is a dump - but then the name DOES contain the word SHACK!! When it came time, we walked down to the beach and watched the most AMAZING sunset I have even witnessed!! You have to take the island as a whole experience and not just each individual item. The party was a blast - the locals had set a small television up in the street and we all watched the game!! Well, part of the game, there WAS a party going in inside!!Take the time, make it an experience!!
i have lived in the US and BVI since 2006. I was also lucky enough to visit the Bomba Shack in the early 1990's before it became commercialized and touristy. It is certainly still a fun place, but... Don't get you hopes/expectations too high. The mushroom tea ceremony is a fun ritual. A boiling cauldron of mushroom tea over an open fire complete with a tea wizard and dancing all around. You buy an empty cup for $10 or $15 bucks and get a ladel of tea when it comes around. Certainly fun but just know it does not contain any hallucinogenic mushrooms/qualities. Getting cab rides in and out is quite expensive as well. $30-40 bucks each way for a 5 minute ride. The cabs are the modern day pirates in the Virgin Islands.
great location to watch the sunset and have a few drinks, down the road from long beach and smugglers cove it is a great place to grab a drink after a day on the beach or a long day at work. across the street is "Trini's Kitchen" with great local food!
The full moon party at Bomba's Shack is an experience not to be missed. My husband and I were in the BVI's for a sailing vacation and had heard about Bomba's full moon party. Lots of people, friendly atmosphere. We met many other couples who were also sailing and had nice conversation with them. Stayed for a few hours, live music to listen to, but we stayed away from the tea!! There are "restrooms" available.
We weren't on Tortola for a full moon (missed it by three days) and judging by the photos hanging by the bar... I'm guessing that's a GOOD thing.:-)Don't get me wrong, in our younger days we would have been up for an all-night party. But being in our late forties - and on our first no-kids vacation in seventeen years - we were content with having a few beers at sunset before heading back to our villa for a home-cooked dinner and early bed.If you're on Tortola, you need to swing by Bomba's. If you further decide to do so during a Full Moon Party... don't take any pictures.
