A very small fort but with an interesting history. A lovely view from the headland across the bay below.
Fort Bennet is located in a residential area, but has gorgeous views of the Caribbean. If you have a hour to spare, like military history, don't want a long , exhausting outing this is jsut the ticket.
Provides a beautiful view of the Sunset over the Caribbean. It's at the end of a residential street in Black Rock. Be sure and check out the oven the used to use to heat the shot for the cannons.
It is at this point one get to see why this tiny island was fought for. The view from the top of the fort is AWESOME, There is the Grafton beach hotel, the Seahorse inn to the right with the hills of Black Rock area and on the left the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean a sheer beauty to see the aqua blue waters. There is not much ruins on the fort, but there is a board with the history which is note worthy.
There is not much to see at Fort Bennett, a coulple of cannons and a kiln, but it is beautifully kept and there are some lovely views and it's free to visit
We walked around here just before sunset and it did not disappoint. The views are breathtaking and there is quite a bit of history around the fort
great view of the harbor, easy to understand why it was selected as a site for a fort. a wel preserved look into the history of the island
Right up the road there is a nice woman selling some of the best fried chicken you've ever eaten. grab a couple 2 piece dinners and head over to ft bennett for dinner with a great view for $5! how could you go wrong with that? And there are CANNONS! who doesn't love a good cannon? Look, its free, there is great food close by, and there are cannons. i'd give it 5 stars if i could find some powder to set those cannons up for fun :)
Nice views. Peaceful place with easy parking and no fee. Easy to find. Gardens with cannons so you can get some good photos, too.
My husband and I visited twice during our stay on Tobago. It is a truly beautiful historic landmark, and quite enjoyable views with many great photo opportunities. We could see all the way around the Black Rock beach area we had been snorkeling, and over to a private beach on the other side of Fort Bennett that we later swam to. Thoroughly enjoyed just sitting in the gazebo to enjoy the breezes and views!
We got up and walked over to Fort Bennett before breakfast buffet. Easy walk up concrete stairs to neighborhood road. Walked down a block through quiet neighborhhod, Park attendant was there, no fee. Good view from the point. Saw a double rainbow!!
My experience was fun. It was a last minute stop where my family and I decided to take a little drive from our apartment to go visit Fort Bennett. I never knew there was a port there until now. I'm not from Tobago so I did not know. It's a beautiful scenery and just a fun place to take pictures. I love the view of the sea and wonderful Tobago from there. Being there makes me think of how smart our army base can think to have an advantage of putting cannons and etc. where it can be easy access to protect our country from bad guys...from unwanted people. It brings me back the story of the Tainos and Kalinagos. It's a beautiful and wonderful place! Really enjoyed it to the fullest!
It's a really nice area. Beautiful overlooks and gardens. Not much to do but overlook the ocean and read about the different plants.
We passed by the sign, then decided to go have a look at what it was. We were greeted at the entrance by 2 people - we thought we had to pay an entry fee, but in fact there was none to pay. We walked upstairs and found an amazing almost 360º view of Great Courland Bay and Stone Haven Bay. Pictures will do it justice. There was not much history around, so we were not sure what really happened here.
Close to our hotel and at the end of Turtle Beach. Easy walk along the road at the back of the beach. You could take a picnic up there !Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.Worth a visit but there are better things to see on the island.
