I have been on several tours with Soraya and Santos and highly recommend them. First of all, unlike many of the businesses in the tourist realm of the DR, this business is founded, owned and managed by a very endearing Dominican family. Santos has lived his entire life in Monte Cristi and has an unmatched knowledge of the waters and landscape surrounding Monte Cristi, and all the ecological diversity they have to offer. Tours are quite affordable, well-organized and safe with life jackets provided to all. Lunch can be included and trust me, it is well worth it to taste Soraya's cooking! I recommend the yuca balls! I loved sailing through the peaceful and ecologically unique mangroves, and exfoliating in the oatmeal-like sand of the natural swimming area. And the beach at La Isla Cabra is beautiful, with calm waters and no vendors of any kind. If you take the time to make the trip out to Monte Cristi, definitely take the time to tour with Soraya and Santos!

great for families as well - they can tell you where to swim, show the sights, and are expert in handling the boat. Lots of experience - my visit was in October, 2013.

I have been on the boat with the Soraya y Santo Tour company 4 times. I used to live in the Dominican Republic and whenever friends or family visited me this is what I suggested they do. Soraya and Santo are a husband and wife who own the boats they operate. They have multiple tour options for different budgets and different interests. Soraya speaks English but will often invite a friend along for the tour who will help her with translating. Santo is a very sweet and quiet man but has spent his entire life on the Monte Cristi coast and can answer all your questions. Monte Cristi looks different from the Dominican Republic's other coasts, the land is a bit more desert like and there are Mangrove trees. This is also an area where you will be likely to see some wildlife. The fish found in this area is also incredible. If you are looking for food while on your trip Soraya is the best cook in the Country. She makes Dominican food the old fashion way with all natural ingredients. If you have the time I highly recommend asking her if she would mind adding lunch to your trip itinerary.Another amazing thing about this business is that they truly care about the environment. Soraya has spend many years working with a Peace Corps youth group called Brigada Verde. This youth group learns about the environment and the importance of protecting it. Each year the group has taken a trip to take a boat tour in Monte Cristi and Soraya will teach them about the ecosystem there, its vulnerability and the importance of protecting it.
