st. george's anglican church

Simple and elegant church with a historic graveyard going back to the 1600s. If the door is locked just lift up the bar to enter.

This is well worth the stop. Hard to believe this church was built so long ago and still stands and is used. Very interesting and the view is unbelievable from the church property.

Wonderful music. There is a super early service (around 6 am at a nearby tiny little church- off Thomas st.) but this is the one to see. The choir is wonderful. Dress appropriately and take a fan. I would not want to be in flip flops and a bathing suit for this service. Lovely!

If you like a little history then pay St Georges a visit, it's just a short walk from the centre of Basseterre and you wont be disappointed

We were walking around Basseterre and bumped into the church Bishop who said "Would you like to see the church?" His cell phone rang and he handed his keys to us and say "go ahead and open the church." Glad we did. He gave us a personal tour and offered anecdotes about the history of the church and congregation. Although free we made a small donation (as we do when visiting any church). This church could be in any small town in Britain.

When we lived on Nevis several years ago our home was just down the road from this Church. We have many memories and pictures of the convicts from the local Prison Farm cleaning the grounds while surrounded by the omnipresent goats of Nevis. This is a fun opportunity to learn some local history and enjoy the architecture. Make sure to look through the graves and see if you can find the oldest one. There are many Anglican Churches on the island, so visit them all.

This church its architecture and service settings would not be out of place in Britain, though the people are more colourful in their dress.

asi es como calificaria a esta hermosa construccion, parece como un pedazo de Londres en el medio de un pais caribeño! tiene un cementerio a su alrededor que realmente parece sacado de una pelicula de cuento! lastima que el dia que fui estaba cerrada, pero sin lugar a dudas es un lugar para visitar en esa hermosa isla cuando vaya!
