We came to the Golf course area to see the beautiful house that the Dupont's built back in the 1920's. It seems no expense was spared in the building of this house back in the day. Many rooms lavishly furnished and of course that view from the bar on the top floor. You have to see it for your self.
This is a wonderful course. We struggled to book prior to arriving in Cuba. Once there we were able to book 4 rounds and once we played the first we were able to add a few more rounds then cancelled others. Carts are mandatory at $33 pesos per person and could use some repairs but they did save us from walking. Average round was just over 4 hours. Course was in good shape. Holes 15 & 16 are a challenge as they play over water. 18 is beautiful as you play along the ocean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They start teams on one and ten then give you a time to cross over. You can rent clubs or bring your own and store them at the clubhouse at a cost of 5.75 per bag. We left ours there for the full week. There is no rhyme or reason on how they put them in storage so if you can put a noticeable identifier on the bag they would be easier to find. Staying at the Melia Las Americas gives you all inclusive golf. I sure hope we can make it back again.
Golf was free with our bungalow at Melia Las Americas, so I thought I would give it a try, though I had to play alone and didn't bring my clubs. First, the mandatory cart was 33 CUC EACH person, a rip off (I later learned that there is an under the table system that will save you about 20 CUC if you know how to plug into it - typical Third World thinking. Then, club rental was 55 CUC - another ripoff, a big one. It cleaned me out, so I couldn't afford to buy a water or beer. The line up to get registered was, like most Cuban lineups, terribly unnecessarily slow. They don't care - who will fire them? The Party? No. Young gal at desk not friendly. Club rental OK, once you got past the cost. Course was maintained OK, not particularly challenging or with special features on the front nine. It straddles the highway, two fairways wide so you don't see much scenery. Greens were just continuations of the fairways, big but not good. Wild turkeys on some holes. I bailed after 9 due to heat without water and a Quebecois threesome that invited me to join them spoke french to each other all the time, charming. I would give it another try I guess, with my own clubs and group. They want to charge primo resort prices but they just don't deliver the service or product to match. They have much to learn, including education of staff to care or at least to pretend that they care. We Canadians are a bit too forgiving sometimes.
Well maintained course with some good challenges. Clubs on hire were good quality and looked pretty new. Buggy supplied was very necessary as large distances between holes. A bit disorganised on reception, almost ignored by two females in the club hire area.
This is a reasonable course but the staff you check in with lack any customer skills, it takes about 30 mins to get sorted with your registration, the caddy master was good though knew his business and was helpful shame the girls in the shop were not more like him. Buggies are really old with ripped seats, don't expect any extras in the buggy like water or wet towels theres nothing
I have played this golf course every time I have been in Cuba (6 trips) and I am still not tired of it. I play at least once a day if not twice on occasion. You get the ocean side golf, inland water ways, long and short holes. In addition, the challenge is increased by prevailing winds. You can't let your guard down even for a moment. It is very easy to just pick up a game if you are travelling alone. There are always others in the same boat. The people you meet from all over the world will also fascinate you when you start a dialogue with them. The club house staff are very polite and attentive. just make sure you call the course for a tee time. Early morning play is highly recommended before the winds start blowing.
Golfed the front 9 on a recent trip to Cuba. The golf course was in good shape, a little soggy in places as it rained the previous night. It's a great course even for beginners. Was met by chickens/roosters on I think the 3rd hole......never had that happen before but better to have them come up to the golf cart instead of a snake or alligator!!!!!!The 9th hole is along the shore line......beautiful view.I also rented clubs one day and used the driving range. It would be nice to have some better clubs to use......I found those clubs extremely long but did manage to hit some good shots. The person at the driving range (sorry forgot person's name) was friendly. They could use 2 people in the morning to check golfers in.All in all enjoyed the golf course and it's proximity to Melia Las Americas and would definitely go back.
nice course reasonably priced can take up to 5 hours to play due to large volumes of players. Greens weren't the best but were in fairly good condition.$125.00 per round with clubs and cart included
We were there each day in late December and late January.Best shape we've seen.Lots of work being done in the fairways by additional workers. Each morning, the grass is always being cut and the bunkers raked to make it look its best.Easiest to pay cash each day - fast! If you pay by credit card and are going a number of times, ask to pay up front to get it out of the way. They have new club rentals this year from what i've seen.Storing your bag will cost you $5CUC for a bag tag - always safe to leave them there. They have gotten so many more people golfing the past two years, you should always book your tee times well ahead of time (you need your confirmation number for your trip when emailing your request for tee times) so you get the time you want. Staff are all amazing and love seeing our friends there year after year.Never disappointing! Thanks for a great two weeks - see you all again soon.
Enjoyed the course immensely. Greens are slower which takes getting used to. Layout is great, nice variety with two very different nines. The two ocean side holes are awesome, and the 18th is jaw dropping beautiful. Some of the amenities (course washrooms, carts) are run down. Will DEFINITELY play again when I return to Cuba!
Booked two early morning rounds through our resort agent.Arrived in the dark at 06:20 for a 06:40 tee time to be told by the receptionist the shop not open until 06:30. Three Spanish speaking golfers however were served directly after us by flashing cash! Our voucher was eventually accepted and we were told to get clubs next door and see the starter for the tee number. When my wife asked where to find the starter she was unable to get a sensible answer so we drove down the 18th. Finally, one of the green staff pointed us to the starters office and our reception was fantastically polite. The rest of our experience was top notch until the next morning check in. At least we knew everything would be good once we got to the starter!Interesting course with some great holes along the coastline.Well worth the $95 package of clubs (new Taylormade), buggy and round.
Views were breathtaking. Lots of variety of golf holes. In pretty good condition. Cart girl Maria was top notch.
Beautiful course. Well maintained and very challenging. This 18 hole course experience was one I will long remember.
Considering the limited means these people have, this is a course that offers many different challenges to any golfer. Have played this course regularly and there are a few holes where I still have to use alot of judgement to make the right decision on which club to take. Oh, and the view from the waterfront holes is absolutely spectacular!!
Golf course was in okay shape. Expensive cost for cart that may or may not make it up the hills when your vacation is "all inclusive golf". Ham & Cheese sandwich was delicious! Beautiful view of the ocean.
