A very strong cascade with water as cold as ice but many managed to take a dip though.Reaching is not a frowner, however, returning will be very challenging.
Once you have committed to the falls, hiking past the rice fields are wonderful and well worth the trip for anybody, but once you reach the steep decent downhill for a good 500m it can be a little daunting, the stone steps are very steep with a small width to place your feet, some of the stones can also be quite mossy/slippery.Remeber at some stage you will be hiking back up these steps, take it slow, keep hydrated and enjoy the experience both ways.Once you reach the falls, all the hard work will be forgotten, I really feel that if you are not willing to swim in the pool of water beneath the falls it's pointless to take the hike. If you do swim you will understand the bliss.Tip: take a pair of wet shoes, as the rocks near the falls can be quite painful to walkk on.
Trip going to Tappiya falls is downhill therefore it is a lot easier. However, going back is somehow very tiring since the trek is all uphill. The falls is breathtaking to see. The water is cold and the current is quite rough, not ideal for children to swim. The rocks/stones are slippery therefore take extra caution in walking.
The trip was well worth it and combined with rice terrace tour P600 from the tourist office in centre of town. Not for those who can't walk up steps and hills though....it's a really tough day out !!
This was my third time in Batad and every visit is a different story. It took us one whole day exploring Batad. Four hours of walking to and another four hours in going back. That long maybe because I was with a bit old people that I need to wait for them or accompany them. On our way to the falls we met a lot of people who was also on their way to the falls. We meet a foreign couple and was able to help them with taking their photos together. Then met another foreign people but this time a couple with two kids. Then Another couple and another couple. The walk to the falls was really tiring but when we reached the place and I saw the falls from above I was in awe of the amazing view right in front of me. So I ran towards the falls and immediately took off my sand and take a dip into the freezing cold water. That was the most relaxing swim ever. I loved the cold water. And I said "God how did you make this kind of place?". Going back to where we came is the hardest part of this trip because of the gravitational pull. That was the most tiring day of my life but seeing God's amazingly beautiful creation took that tiredness feeling away. Yes indeed it was a humbling experience.
Wow! Rode top load (on top of the utility vehicle) !!! I know it is not for everyone, not safe whatsoever but what an experience! Amazing views and landscape (rice terraces, rivers) all the way to Batad. Stayed at a traditional Ifugao house. It gets cold, went on January, it was cloudy and drizzled once in a while. Trekked the rice terraces and was greeted by this waterfall!!! Amazing!!!!
Of course, the Batad Rice Terraces is a must see, but you must plan to hike to see the Tappiya Falls to complete your visit there. The hike down and up to the falls is very challenging but it is sure worth it.Hints: If you are going to Batad, make sure to plan to stay overnight there. Then you can take your time while absorbing the beauty of the place and also have the energy to hike to the Falls. This way you do not have to rush back to Banawe and miss out the incredibly relaxing vibes of staying in an inn on top of the terraces. Take advantage of a good massage from the local people after a tiring trip to the Fall.
Tappiya Falls is a little bit colder but its really super clearly and its was surrounded by nestle panoramic valley
After climbing the terraces this is a good place to take a bathe and cool down. If you start early there is a chance that you come here first and can enjoy the tranquility of the place.
Just recently back from trip in Philippines and gong to Tappiya Falls is a great achievement.we started our batad and tappiya tour around 9am. the trail to go to batad wasn't that bad but trust me, its very steep. we advised to have a stick and i am so please we listened to our tour guide. we rested and took out orders for lunch in hillside restaurant in batad. the trail going down to tappiya falls is scary. so better take it slowly and surely.Tappiya Falls - its a great achievement to see a beautiful waterfalls after the steep walks. water is cold(around 18C). very clear. only one person in there when we arrived so its quiet and relaxing.going up is a difficult one. but we managed to finish the whole trail. Suggestions:- wear a comfortable shoes(rubber shoes, not flat shoes)- bring bottle of water- bring back pack( make it not too heavy)- rent a stick- bring towel and clothes if you are thinking to go to Tappiya falls- wear sunscreen lotion(50+)- wear long sleeve (if you want, to prevent sun burn)- take it slowly. dont rush- take a tour guide- theres an environmental fee- this tour will take your whole day. start early
I am by no means sporty and I don't really go on hikes. But, since we were in Batad, you of course should at least checkout Tappiya Falls. Good thing we arrived the day before and chose to go to the falls on our second day. The trail going to the falls is quite scary. There are areas where the stones you step on are small and there are no railings on the side. Definitely not for someone scared of heights because if you look down, it could be about a few 30+ feet drop or even more. Steps are steep and will take up a lot of your energy. When you get to the falls, it is rewarding in a sense that you were able to reach that far. Going back is a whole different story because most of the steps are uphill. There are rest stops throughout the trail. Beware that a tiny Gatorade is about Php 70. It was alright for us though since it is such a small amount to support the local community. Kids would sometimes be the ones manning the rest stops. This trail took us about 1 hour and 30 minutes one way. I was really slow!! Our guide was Harold from Hillside Inn. Other couples we met at Hillside Inn even went on trecks to other nearby villages. Maybe when we come back next time, I will be more prepared. Ask your guide to take you through the Batad village on your way to the falls.
The walk there is good, you can stay at about the same level as the touristy part of Batad as you walk across the rice terraces to the ridge on the opposite side then it's a steep downhill section of steps and you reach the falls soon after. The falls are pretty good. Quite a bit of force producing plenty of noise and spray. There are plenty of rocks to lay on and sunbathe and although the water is many chose to swim in the large (and in places deep) pool. The walk back is tough. Very steep back up the steps! We're reasonably fit in our late 20's and this left us dripping with sweat and out of breath. If you really want a good walk go down through the village then steep uphill to the tourist part of the village.Generally you'd combine walking the rice terraces and the waterfall into one activity taking most of the afternoon.
Hike from this falls will be tough specially when the time we visit this beautiful falls as the steep can be slippery because it rains. Me and my wife visit batad last December 26 - 28. when we got there, you can feel the power, the water flows so strong. it's a bit disappointing that it's not a good timing to swim at that time. But i really enjoy it despite of the tough hike. i want to thank also our tour guide Hogan, he really take care of us.I'm proud that me and my wife survive this. i want to get back on this place..this time i will really prepare for it. :)
The hike to waterfall can be tough, in particular when it rains. The steps are very steep and can be slippery. The waterfall itself is nice but not spectacular. Most travelers enjoy the swim, simply to cool off from the hike.
The beautiful Tappiyah Waterfall are worth the fairly strenuous walk down and back up again from Batad. Take care: the rocks near the lagoon and at its edge are very slippery. My wife slipped over and scraped her shin. Good walking sticks are a handy. Our advice: if you want to add this to your itinerary, consider staying a night in Batad. Engage a good local guide.
