We visiyed the main Odori Park area of the Festival, and had trouble finding this part. A blocked off set of streets with the smaller and deicate ice carving so common in Japan. I feel this is over looked but has tremendous interest. From ice carvings of cars that you can sit in to the more common dragons and kirin beer ice carvings to blocks of ice with fish frozen into the blocks. Really worth looking for - this is the miniature portraits of the Yuki Matsuri -well worth seeking out and finding
Sapporo and Susukino during the 66th Snowfestival was great. The area is walkable from Sapporo station to Odori Park to Susukino. Snow and ice scupltures were awesome. Why great and under rated? Sapporo has everything a big city has and more. Great food, people shopping and drinking establishments. The prices are cheaper and to a certain extent better value for money vs Tokyo. Susukino is the only place with highly concerntrated bars, restaurants and shopping past 10pm. Also the red light district is basically a number of photos advertising girls and guys all photoshopped. If you hang out at the local convenience store you can see them getting a last minute sandwich before work. Great place to visit。
Susukino. It is the entertainment hub of Sapporo. It offers the tourist every conceivable entertainment they could want. From the girly bars to the male entertainment hidden bars and clubs. To Shopping, streetcars. restaurants, urban life and so much more.
While staying in Susukino it felt like I was never going to run out of things to do. This neighborhood has an outstanding selection of restaurants, bars and shopping.. And also some of the best value for money hotel deals you can find! And if that's not enough add the underground walkway/shopping centre that connects it to the main JR Station while keeping you dry and warm. Great fun!
I was hoping so much about the yummy ramen in this area, but got upset. I tried the ramen restaurant in the first shop. Rude staff, rude words even to Japanese, bad food. I was hoping this ramen is better or at least same as Tomita ramen in Tokyo, but it is definitely not. My parents even afraid to asked for more waters, and the worst of all, the chef doesn't say thank you to asian customer including the Japanese next to me, he only say "thank you" and yelling "arigato gozaimashita" to Caucasian tourist. We said "gochizosamadeshita" and only the youngest who answering. Sigh.. i paid 4000 yen in here, and treat like a trash. I prefer to queue for 3 hours at Tomita ramen, rather than sit in 1 minute in here.
Food lover's paradise, so many good restaurants who offer excellent dishes, bars and pubs also abundant in the area.
Susukino is two stations away or a good 15 minutes walk from the JR Sapporo station. There are many eateries and clubs around that area; and it's very vibrant, especially in the late evening. Susukino is also famous for the ramen and seafood restaurants. There were some interesting ice sculptures during the snow festival.
Heaps of nice restaurants and bars, if you a gilrs stay away from the girly bars lol, nown as a red light district but very very safe and still heaps of fun, awesome fairies wheel on the seventh floor of a shopping centre with very nice views of the city, a must!!
