You can buy propolice honey and lots cheap thing. Tipical kz candy is also good.
Nice place to have an afterniion walk there - watching the heads, meats, inner parts of animals...and nice fruits.
The bazaar is well worth a visit and presents a few photo opportunities. The vendors were very accommodating in allowing photographs of their produce, although most don't want to be in the photos themselves (so ensure that you ask first - a simple gesture with your camera will get your message across).Don't miss the meat market that is inside a building at the centre of the market. It is divided into different sections based on meat type - beef, mutton, horse, etc.
Located in the very heart of the city, a little less traditional than I thought in terms of authentity, but with a brilliant choice of kazakh food. A good place to eat could be found on the second flour. Don't forget to buy some apples - Almaty is a father of apples!
Don't expect too much from this place and you won't be disappointed - it's not fancy and it's not aimed at tourists but it does give you an authentic marketplace experience, horse entrails and all. It's a great place to barter with shop owners, taste local delicacies and buy anything from clothing to fresh lamb/goat/horse (all fresh but unrefrigerated). As with anything in K-stan, knowing some Russian will definitely help as almost no one speaks English, but just point and smile and you'll have a great time.
The so called Green Bazar is an amazing place to buy fresh food, vegetables, meat, or anything you want 100% organic. The place is very clean and people is friendly but they only speak russian and kazak. On the surroundings you have some other markets, mostly cheap stuff. To get to the green bazar be patient and beware of the heavy transit!
Nicest and the most organized bazaar I have ever seen so far. I can't say things are cheap there (since it is hard for a tourists), but a reasonable price. But it seems most products are from China, except the fruits and vegetables. So, it is not a really big surprise for people from the East. But anyway, if you want to buy scarf, fruits, honey, Cheese, ....., it is still the top pick.
Nice and cozy Bazaar. However, if you are looking for Oriental style Bazaar "Teheran or Istanbul style", you should not come here. But if you want to buy nuts, fruits, meat, Kazakh traditional drinks and pastry, you want to come to the "Green Bazaar" of Almaty. It is conveniently located right in the centre of the city. And you might find the best deal here! IF you became tired of local food, you might consider to have a bite at KFC or Hardee's, which are located quite close to the Bazaar. And don't forget to bargain!Nice shopping
I likke Bazaars. And this one is different in many ways to what you would see in the West. Cheeses I've never seen before, huge meat stands with women preparing sausages in front of you. And its spotless clean.People are friendly, and will try to communicate although we do not speak Russian and they do not speak English. A fun experience if you like Bazaars. And make sure to walk back through the park across the street and stop over at Ascension Cathedral just minutes away.
To be honest the quality of food is outstanding if you compare it with regular supermarkets than ramstore or others and it is much cheaper. I do not like the place ( I do not go to bazars if I can avoid it - to much people and to much blabla ) and send my wife to go there - she is local an likes it. But if you liek bazars good place to go.
I'm in the business trip in Almaty for almost a year and have to say that this is one of the most right place to visit.Don't try to buy anything (maybe 'kazy' - be sure you have two prices) as people can see tourists for a mile far:) but this place really looks like Bazar should looks!Honestly I've not been impressed on my first visit but now I'm shopping there every second week. You'll neve find better or fresher food than on Green Bazar.
I love bazaars. I love to see how local people shop, what they buy, how they dress. I am a people watcher and I quite enjoyed this enormous bazaar. This is Kazakhstan at it's most genuine. Not for everyone certainly. It is not a tourist attraction by any means, but my husband and I enjoyed joking around with the fruits and nuts guys in our limited Russian and buying some strange things we had never seen or tasted before.
Wondering that someone thought it may be worth to visit this market. It is just a big bazaar, nothing else! May be not clean..
