These very well preserved ancient cave temples are beautifully set along a red-rock hill. Good views from top. Watch out for pesky monkeys!

It is a decent climb in stages, where you get a great insight into our ancient history. Lovely view of Badami and surroundings from the top

The temples are cut out of red sandstone and look magnificent. The insides of the temples are intricately carved.You can hire English speaking guide for a tour of the temples. The charge is 500 for a group of 5 . We teamed up with some other tourists to split the costs.The bhoothnath temples are near by .

At the end of January 2015 we visited Badami. After visiting the city centre we went to the Cave temples. You can easily walk it.From there you can also visit the old fort, a little harder to walk, but can be done.

Definitely worth a visit. The infrastructure in terms of hotels, restaurants, etc is inadequate. The town oozes old world charm and the caves and other temples are simply marvellous. One does not find too many tourists and hence it is a simply must visit place. Getting to Badami from anywhere other than Bangalore can be a nightmare and a major portion of the travel budget is spent on cab hire. The Badami Cave temples are outstanding. However, our overall experience was unsatisfactory because of extremely poor visitor facilities near the temples as well as in town. For a world heritage site, the town is a disgrace.

The location of these cave temples is quite amazing. They are reached by passing through very poor villages amidst some historical ruins. The caves the selves are reached by climbing up steps. Beware of the monkeys and do not take any bags that might attract there attention.Well worth visiting these caves but they make more sense if you have been to Aihole first.

Badami caves are said to be from chalukya dynasty. They are rock carved caves and statues. We visisted this place few times since last 20 years. Ealrier it looks likes a neglected historical place. Now govt has come up and improved a lot in terms of facility to make visitor / tourists feel comfortable. Even cleanliness is well maintained now.Basically this place is most of the time very hot place so you need to always carry plenty of clean drinking water, Even when you are climbing the caves. It is like rock hill and at the top of the hill, you wont get any water so make sore you carry plenty of water. (few big bottles). Ofcourse water bottles can be purchased in shops nearby. There are lots of moneys there doing usual monkey business. Take care of your stuffs. If you have a car, keep your stuffs in car. Espceially food items. Not for old people with severe knee pain or with wheel chair. Cant carry the baby pram.

We about four families went to badami to see banshankari caves and also visited badami caves, the caves are excellently maintained by the ASI and are worth seeing. The bhoothnath temple and four caves having different gods idols are really good. the visit is a must for history lovers and for those students who are pursing architecture. Badami is located in karnataka state near bagalkot. there are few lodges in badami where you can stay and visit the caves

I nearly cancel this leg of tour. i would have missed such a stunning Hertiage site .... wowwwwwell worth the long hard drive to badami The national hertiage site is amazing. Cannot believe that this was done thousands of years agomust vivist

Badami caves will in all likelyhood become world heritage site next year. It is a must visit , the carvings are magnificient. You should take guide services to understand the monuments, also do ask the guide to take you to shilpaphadi. This place is 2km walk from badami caves and is known to be haunted. While you will enjoy the badami caves, be careful of monkeys. They will follow you everywhere, if you are carrying eatables.

Amazing place with details and views. But I was foolish to combine a daytrip from Hampi which included Aihole, Pattadakal and Badami - each of these places are so fantastic and rich in details and information, that this becomes too much overpowering and an overload. Not that such a daytrip cannot be done, but if you want to seriously do all of this, you don't have adequate time or energy. Next month, I did Ajanta and Ellora - and Badami, Ajanta and Ellora have a connected history, through the craftsmen and the trade routes - it is one of the southern Silk Routes coming in from Alleppo in Syria, down through Sindh below the Hindukush, and then onto Jaisalmer and then the desert and then onto Ajanta and Ellora and then Badami..

The four late 6C cave temples have many intricately carved figures. The caves were carved into the cliff face -this makes a dramatic position and good views onto the lake and town below.

Me and my husband was looking for an year end visist and search ended with Badami,Aihole,bijapur and pattadakkal .We planned accordingly after .searching for utilising max time for travel and visits.We took flight from Trivamdrum to bangalore ,afternoon flight.Booked for an overnight Golgumbaz train from bangalore at 7.00pm same day and reached next day morning at6.30am.We had booked at Heritage hotel in Badami on a package and i should say..it was very reasonable.They took us around.First day we went to Bijapur..slightly far from badami..and see Golgumbaz,a worth seeing monument,other attractions for a day and came back.Next day early morning its beautiful to visit Badami caves ..a huge area on red rockes and beautiful in early morning sun,You can walk and climb..there are four cave temples at each level..and a view down is mesmerising on banks .there are lot more...area down is like any other indian town..you can explore the whole area of badami cave temples for about 3-4 hrs.
