Spent a day here on a trip from Boquete. Lovely for swimming or just lying on the beach, with the water lapping around you. Look for the thousands of hermit crabs, scuttling around. Fascinating little creatures!
We live locally here in Panama, but only occasionally go to the ocean. A friend of our recommended that we go to Bolanos as it was quiet, beautiful, crystal clear waters, relatively undiscovered and not too expensive. We called "Leo" the owner (+507-6936-0778) of a small fishing boat to take us out. Leo speaks some English, so this helped. He knew exactly where the best beach was, where the best snorkeling was, and stayed with us the entire day on the island while we relaxed. The boat rental with Leo cost $120 during the week, and I understand it is $150 on the weekend. He doesn't provide any food or other services, but had some masks and snorkels we could use. This is a great spot for relaxing and snorkeling, for couples solo and with kids. Afterwards, Leo called a friend at the dock who sold us some large live lobster for $6 per pound. We steamed them that evening and they were delicious!
Camped for several days on Isla Bolanos with friends, good beach, swam, snorkeled, kayaked around the island. Saw many Humpback Whale, some very close to the island. One surfaced with in a few feet of friends in a kayak! Beautiful place.
Went on a snorkeling tour to the Isla. While hanging out at the beach, a group of local guys climbed a coconut tree and brought down a dozen and shared them with us. Nothing like fresh coco on the beach.
Nice beach to swim and snorkel on. Fish to see and bring a knife to enjoy the coconuts!
