From the top you will see an incredible view of the city, crater lake, volcanos and the city's most iconic symbol - statue of Sandinista founder SANDINO. You will also see the ruins of the old Presidential Palace.
Worth a trip for the views of the very flat city (thanks to the volcanos!). Read up on your history before going, as it will then all make sense, including Mussolini's gift of a very small tank (for a child???).
Pleasant easy walk to one of the city's view points but the zip line wasn't running when we visited in January 2015.
From here you can see a large part of Managua, the lake, a lagoon and the Momotombo volcano. There is a museum dedicated to the revolution. Good to read Spanish or come with someone who can translate. Small entrance fee.
There is a small admission charge into the park that features spectacular 360 degree views of the city of Managua. Walked in and paid $1usd. If you are daring, there is a zipline which costs about $17usd. An antiquated revolution museum is located under a nearby viaduct. All pictorials are in Spanish. A local mall, Inter Plaza is just down the street to see the local shopping experience. With a shortage of sights in the capital city, taking a few moments for the laguna is worth it.
Don't understand the point. Strange museum to the revolution off the side under a viaduct. Don't understand why one couldn't walk the war memorial. Don't pay the $1 entrance fee.
I guess my expectations were too high? The views of Lago de Managua and Tiscapa are stunning. Definitely. Cost $1USD to enter and there's a small cafe at the top along with a play area for kiddies. The walk through with pictures about the Sandanistas and Sandino is entirely in Spanish. $3USD for an English accompaniment. Id skip it
Short stop on a brief tour of Managua en route to Granada. Good views over the city and explanation of the statue from our guide. Unpleasant smell emanating from the nearby lagoon.
We came here on an early Sunday Morning and had the place pretty much for ourselves which I assume is not the case generally. The view is fine but it is hardly remarkable.
Beautiful view of the city Managua. Its a great place to learn more about the history of Managua and Sandino if you go with someone who can read the plates and inform you. Otherwise, it has great views and it a great way to spend the afternoon!
this was a good experience for me because I was getting to know the my wife's country, and I got to meet really exceptional people, my tour guide/driver was awesome we connected and laugh and talk about history, politics, food, places to see and visit in Nicaragua, Loma de Tiscapa is where is was pressumed killed sandino, therefore that is why there is a shadow outline of him, there's a lot of history in Nicaragua, the main thing is ask a local, 9 out of 10 times they will be glad to explain to you about their city and their culture, now in tiscapa they have a zipline from the top of the hill to the bottom, if you would like to see managua and how big it actually is, go to tiscapa and take a look at the city you won't regret it, a must see.
If you're at all interested in the history of Nicaragua, learning about Sandino is a must. This site has a small museum and an outdoor area with a large shadow cutout of Sandino. Kind of strange to see it randomly on the city skyline, but also a cool way to honor this historical figure.
Awesome.....!!! The heroe's shadown.... ! Is a amazing cite for a relax moment and thing in the center of managua
From this place you can see a large part of Managua City, the lake, a lagoon and the Momotombo volcano. The view is really excellent. The place is easy to find, you will see the Sandino figure from all over the town. BTW I was told that this was the place he was assassinated, by the former presidential palace. There is also a memorial to those who died in the revolution, Monumento el Soldado Conocido, and some historical information and photos.Start walking uphill at the Crowne Plaza, walking up the hill takes a while (15 minutes or so), so avoid doing it on a hot day, or bring water. When I was there you could buy ice-cream and fruit from street vendors.
This is a really nice area to get a great view across all of Managua. It can get very hot up here but there were guys selling ice creams on bikes when we visited. There is not a huge amount to do but there are a fair few things to see. It is great if you can get here with a guide to tell you about the different things to see from here as there is a lot of history here. One thing which I really enjoyed seeing was Somozas tank which is displayed at the top of the hill. This is a very small light tank given to him as a gift by Mussolini. I didn't see any men in our group who didn't take a photo of this tiny tank, secretly thinking, "I'd love to own one of these".Another very impressive feature is the huge silhouette of Sandino over looking the city.Certainly worth a visit.
