Salsa Dreams is my favorite dancing school in Antigua / Guatemala. If you like to try it visit the free class on Monday and Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Carmen and Mike are lovely persons, exceptional dancers and very good dancing teachers. The first time I visited Salsa Dreams with my travel group. We had a Salsa trial course with Mike. He taught us some basic steps. We had a lot of fun. During the next lessons with Carmen, I learned for the first time what it means to be the leader. She taught me exactly what I have to do and it just worked :-) I need to learn more. Dancing seems to be fun!

When I traveled to Guatemala I was determined to learn salsa - thank goodness I found Salsa Dreams! Whether you're looking for a fun, low pressure environment to start dancing, or if you want to perfect the skills you already have, this is the perfect place to go. Over the course of 4 months I took private lessons and also created great friendships with the instructors, their friends, tourists and locals alike. A must visit if you are in Antigua.

Let me start by saying I had NO dance experience prior to visiting Salsa Dreams. I did a free class with Mike after some arm twisting by my friends. I had so much fun I signed up for private lessons. Mike is a wonderful teacher, and was VERY patient with me. He made the classes fun and I learned so much. After five classes, I felt comfortable enough to go to some local salsa clubs. While I am still no expert salsa dancer, I can now go to salsa clubs and have a great time! If you are looking to have a great time and learn Salsa, give Mike a call!!!

You can't go to Antigua without learning to dance - the city buzzes with salsa and bachata beats and having experienced both the free groups classes and the private one-to-one classes I would definitely recommend this school. Mike is a really good teacher and really fun and the studio is really nice, light and airy - not all are like that. If you are thinking about it try a FREE CLASS first - Mondays and Tuesdays 5-6pm - I arrived in Antigua on my own and made some excellent friends there. Mike creates a very fun environment to learn and make mistakes and is not at all sleazy - he makes sure guys know not to put their hands anywhere inappropriate!!! I definitely recommend it!

The instructors at Salsa dreams are fantastic!! Mike and Carmen both have a way of making the learning experience a lot of fun, which in turn makes it much easier!! It's a great place for both beginners and more advanced dancers. I recently brought 5 friends to a fun group class - they had a great time learning the basics before going out in Antigua to show off! I've been going to Salsa Dreams for years every time I'm in town and I always have a great time and learn something new!It should be your first stop if you want a great salsa class in Antigua!!

I already wrote a review about other salsa studio in Antigua, but to be fair I can not leave this one without attention. Ladies, this is your place. Mike will teach you salsa, bachata, merengue, cumbia. He is a very nice guy, skilled and enthusiastic. The class will be fun and you will leave the studio a better dancer. The studio itself is very big and well equipped, the atmosphere is welcoming and you will love it. A place for dancers at all levels. The rates are low and packages are a good deal. On Monday and Tuesday there are free beginner classes.

This was a lot of fun. I just took a one off class, advertised by my Spanish language school. The studio is lovely, with great wooden floors, floor to ceiling mirrors, and great space. The class, which admittedly featured all female students, began with a brief primer on salsa dancing. They did a great job breaking down the moves and, because everyone in class is a beginner, you don't feel self conscious as you learn. Then, it's dancing time! They bring in a bunch of guy dancers, play some music, and then you start using the moves you learned. They keep it really simple and repetitive, giving you time to get comfortable with a few moves and actually start to enjoy the music. The guy dancers are also really nice and you switch off frequently (multiple times per song), which is much more fun.At the end, we got to see Manolo and his partner dance which helps you realize that you are SUCH a beginner. It was amazing to see what good, hot salsa dancing looks like and an enjoyable treat. I definitely think this is fun, but really only works if you're a true beginner. If you know how to salsa dance already you might get a bit bored with repetition so be sure to look into more advanced (possibly one-on-one) classes.

I started off with just one week of classes everyday but I was learning so much and enjoying it so much that I extended my trip, and my course of salsa classes, 3 times. Mike and Carmen are not only incredible dancers themselves but are very experienced in teaching their craft and so have all the patience necessary to teach a beginner like me. I am proud to say that I was able to dance in the clubs well before I left Antigua and will certainly be practicing my new skill on the dancefloors back home. The school can also teach many other types of Latin dance, not just salsa: merengue, bachata, tango, bolero, as well as having hip hop classes too! Even if you are not interested in paying for private classes (which are ridiculously cheap compared to what you would pay for one hour of a professional's time in Europe), you should definitely go along to the free group classes on a Monday and Tuesday night at 5pm - I bet anything you end up changing your mind about private classes!
