the museum cum hotel is a very nice place with lots of old things preserved and well kept. Most of the parts are open to view for public too you not necessarily need to stay there or have a meal. Must visit even if u just have a couple of days in antigua. They also have a shuttle which goes up the hill to there restaurants which we don't do, but heard it's free to go and there is a beautiful scene of antigua from the hilltop. We missed it cos it was night by the time we went.
the cathedrals and central ruins give the town it's unique old world flair. Vulcan Fuego dominates the skyline and came to life during my stay adding a bit of drama to an otherwise serene setting. Weekends are busy with festivals during the month before Easter
I had lunch here and it was wonderful! The Hotel is a restored historic building with a museum attached. Located right in the heart of Antigua with beautiful gardens and landscaping. This is where I'll stay on my next trip to Antigua.
Were not at hotel very expensive but the museum is great with the visit hotel grounds are great restaurant seems fancy but didn't eat there
WOW! This was my first impression when I first walked into CSD 11 years ago. We have stayed many times throughout the years for many reasons, but the two most important were in May 2004 and February 2014. Our son was married there, at our recommendation. 75 people came from US all staying at CSD. not one complaint, everyone had the same reaction as I did. 10 years later our daughter married there also. For 10 years she would say that she was going to marry there and she did. We are NOT FROM GUATEMALA, our children married Americans, from California and Michigan. With our daughter 124 guest came from US. Not all could stay at CSD but all spent time there. Again, not one complaint only amazement. The service, the food, the ambient, it is next to non. This Hotel is a MUST SEE & STAY at least once when in Antigua, Guatemala.
This is actually a hotel but it has ruins very carefully integrated into the hotel and also a delightful chapel: well worth a visit!
We did not stay at the hotel, but decided to try out their Sunday brunch. Had to wait about 40 minutes to get seated; but the wait was worth it ! The buffet was excellent. The wait staff was very professional. The price was about U.S. $15.00 per person = excellent value. After brunch we toured the various museums on site = AMAZING !
A nice way to spend a morning or afternoon. Beautiful grounds with parrots scattered here and there. Explore crypts, the beautiful remains of a cathedral, museums and more. If you plan on doing the walking tour with Elizabeth Bell, don't pay for the museums as Ms. Bell's tour includes it (at least at the time of this review).
My wife loved the chocolate factury and was able to pick up some pretty uniquepieces that she raved about. We bot enjoyed wandering through the ruins andmuseums.
Lovely place. We didn't stay there but explored the grounds and artwork. They have a restaurant up on the hill which is a must! Just go the the reception desk and they transport you up. Good food, great views of the city, great art exhibits. Go before nightfall.
Go for the brunch on Sunday, stay to walk through the gardens, ruins, and museums. Be certain to go along the underground walkway and read the history of Antigua and the discovery of the ruins of Santo Domingo. If you enjoy history, art, and architecture, this is a must see place.
It was amazing how a hotel ,chocolate store, museum and church were integrated into these ruins. The gardens were beautiful as well.
Casa Santo Domingo is an amazing hotel that is steeped in history. Once a town in its own right decreed by the Dominicans it has been pummeled by earthquakes over the centuries. What is left and what has been added is nothing short of awesome. The museums are spectacular and they are included on all Antigua tours; the grounds are magnificent. Most of the rooms are a little on the small side and overpriced. The restaurant, however, is spectacular! For $40.00 treat yourself to the 9 course tasting menu. Pair these offerings with their respectable wine list and you have an evening made in heaven. It is the best tasting menu I have tasted bar none. Enjoy.
The place is beautiful surrounded by gardens and fountains. Rooms need more lighting. Wonderful food at their restaurants, specially a very completo breakfast buffet at a reasonable Price.
We did not stay at the hotel but booked a tour of the museum which was fantastic mix of historical artifacts and cleverly juxtaposed with modern interpretations from other countries was one of the more unique places we visited. The pass allows you to wander the grounds of the old monastery after - very popular place for weddings - several were taking place when visited
