For the last 5 years I have traveled extensively in Guatemala and have always used Juan Carlos Santos of V&C Tours. Juan Carlos is a tour guide certified by the Guatemalan Department of Tourism and is the owner of V&C Tours (www.vctours.com), a full service, government certified travel agency. Juan Carlos speaks fluent English and Spanish. He is very friendly and accommodating, but more importantly, he has extensive knowledge of his country, its history, traditions and destinations. I have been fishing in Guatemala for years and besides the great Pacific sail fishing, I have been exploring off the beaten track locations for tarpon and snook opportunities. I am always amazed by the personal connections that Juan Carlos has with people throughout Guatemala. It seems no matter where we go, no matter how remote, he knows the right hotel owners, captains, restaurants and local guides. With his connections, he has saved me much time and money by great planning and securing great discounts. His knowledge of Guatemala City is amazing and comes in very handy when there are massive traffic jams to avoid. I have visited Tikal twice with Juan Carlos as well as Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Rio Dulce, Puerto Barrios, Lake Isabel, and many other locations. I have used Juan Carlos for many different types of tours and done many different activities from zip lining, climbing a live volcano, white water rafting, caving, golfing, horseback riding, tours of coffee and macadamia nut plantations, cultural tours of Antigua and Tikal, boat rides on Lake Atitlan, visit to wonderful outdoor zoos, and of course all types of fishing. I have always felt safe and have great respect for his ability and judgment. His van is a late model Toyota Hiace with a/c that can comfortable seat 12 people. He has many other vans and busses at his disposal and also a network of certified tour guides that speak French, Mandarin, German and Italian. Juan Carlos grew up working for the fishing industry in Guatemala. Traveling extensively to every part of Guatemala, Juan Carlos has acquired a treasure of knowledge and made lasting friendships in the tourism industry. He also has extensive contacts to secure great sport fishing charters. V & C Tour’s office is literally across the street from the cruise ship terminal at Puerto Quetzal. Juan Carlos is a really great person who is involved on a volunteer basis is helping his local community. He is the president of the Puerto San Jose tourist development council. Under his leadership, the community has formed a volunteer workforce of over 100 people to help beautify the local community and make the black sand beach of Puerto San Jose more attractive to tourist. He is the type of person who gives of himself to help others. If you are going to visit Guatemala, either by plane or Cruise Line, you need to give Juan Carlos a call first. He can be reached at 502-4828-7358, jc@vctours.com or visit his website www.vctours.com After 30 + trips to Guatemala, Juan Carlos and V&C Tours has consistently provided me with personal, expect service which is second to none. I highly recommend him.
Juan Carlos speaks perfect English, is friendly, incredibly accommodating, and most of all- quite knowledgeable about Guatemala, its rich history, and points of interest. He studied to be a certified tour guide, and it shows- he is able to explain the intricacies and fascinating parts of the different Mayan cultures near Lake Atitlan, share geographic and regional facts on a hike up a volcano, and explore the rich history of Antigua. He is particularly tuned into the sport fishing community of Guatemala also. Before you book anything in Guatemala- contact Juan Carlos- he has long-standing relationships with resort owners, owners of homes for rent, sport fishing captains, etc. He can suggest and/or make the reservations for you, often getting you a nice discount. His knowledge of booking saved our trip to Tikal- the company that worked with one of the hotels we stayed at would only work with one airline to get to Tikal, and they didn't have any availability that would fit our schedule. Juan Carlos checked the other airlines for us and booked us flights at times that worked perfectly and we got to spend even more time enjoying the country. His van is top of the line, clean, new, and great air conditioning. Juan Carlos picks you up an acts as a full service tour guide. Juan Carlos also gives back to his community- teaching local children how to speak English- so when you go over, bring some pencils, paper, books, etc for him to pass on to the children he tutors.
